On Orientation Day, Year 6 students will participate in a range of fun activities to get a taste of high school life. A sausage sizzle lunch will be provided, but we recommend that students also bring some additional snacks and a drink bottle.

As a special treat, our Year 12 students will be selling snow cones at lunchtime.

Snow cones will be $3 each and students can purchase them with cash or card (cards on mobile phones will not be accepted). Please refer to the flyers for more information.

NOTE: The BBHS Orientation Day is only for those Year 6 students who have a confirmed enrolment at Byron Bay High School for Year 7 2025.

Sophia and Juniper have been selected for ARTEXPRESS 2025!

We are thrilled to announce that the following exceptional Year 12 students from Byron Bay High School have had their Bodies of Work selected to be included in the prestigious ARTEXPRESS Showcase:

Being selected for ARTEXPRESS is a significant achievement, as it recognises the outstanding artistic talent and creativity of students, highlighting their Bodies of Work as some of the best in the state for the NSW HSC.

2025 Sports Carnivals

We are excited to begin preparations for next year's major school carnivals

Some of the carnival fun and achievements in 2024

We are busy preparing for next year's major whole school sporting carnivals and are pleased to announce the early release of our new online consent form. Our school highly values these sporting events and the positive impact they have on student well-being, as well as the important role they play in fostering a sense of connection to the school community.

The 2025 school carnivals are key school events, and all students are expected to participate.

The online consent form that will be sent to all parents and carers in the coming days will cover all 3 major carnivals for the year. Please note: there is no payment required for these events at this stage (the consent form is simply to gain permission for your child to attend these off-site events):

  • Swimming Carnival - Wednesday 12 February 2025
  • Cross Country Carnival - Friday 4 April 2025
  • Athletics Carnival - Tuesday 20 May 2025

During 2025, detailed information about each carnival will be shared with parents and carers through our Breeze newsletters and via email. We will also actively communicate with the students at school prior to the events. It is important to remember that no alternative programs will be offered at school on carnival days as all staff and students are expected to attend the carnivals.

If a student arrives at school on a carnival day without prior online consent, parents/carers will be contacted for them to come and collect their child.

We appreciate your support and look forward to seeing all students participate in these exciting events.

Over the next few weeks we will be collecting donations to put towards these hampers.

Some ideas for donations are as follows:

Advance Australia Fair?

The issue

The needs of our children are growing, but the funding from governments hasn’t kept up.

Principals and teachers are delivering a great education for students in our public schools, but they are being asked to do too much with too little.

Investing more in public schools is an investment in our teachers and our children. It will expand the opportunities children have to learn and give teachers more time to focus on meeting the needs of every child.

The graphics above indicate the amount of Aust. Federal Govt. funding received by 970 NSW private schools as opposed to 2216 public schools, the discrepancy is clear.

Why now?

Federal and state politicians are currently deciding whether public schools will finally receive full funding.

Right now, 98% of public schools are resourced below the Schooling Resource Standard, which is the minimum amount governments have agreed they need.

Getting every public school to that Schooling Resource Standard by 2028 is our goal and we need your help to achieve it.

We need the Federal Government to negotiate new agreements with every state and territory that will ensure public schools are fully funded by 2028 and the Albanese Government needs to show leadership and deliver a minimum of 25% of the public schools’ funding in every state and territory.

We do not care who is in power, we only care about what is right, fair and of benefit for our children.

Please take 3 minutes to use access the link below and email the federal government.

Stage 6 Study Skills Sessions

For students studying Year 11 and 12 subjects in 2025

I am excited to announce a new initiative to support our Stage 6 students with their learning and developing effective study habits. Starting from Tuesday 3 December 2024, until the end of 2025, all students studying Stage 6 subjects will have the opportunity to participate in supervised study sessions every Tuesday afternoon in the school library, from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm.

These sessions provide an excellent opportunity for students to:

  • Revise syllabus content
  • Work on assessments
  • Catch up on missed work, and
  • Receive support with their work developing effective study habits.
Students are welcome to attend every Tuesday, every now and again, or even just as a once off.

Students will have access to computers, laptops, and my guidance should they need assistance. Please note that students will need to arrange their own transport home after 4:30 pm.

If you consent to your child attending, please complete and return the attached permission slip:

Please contact me if you have any questions at: murray.cronin1@det.nsw.edu.au
