Animation Practice

Relevant Content Standard – Students will use the components of design, graphic design, and/or animation (e.g. contrast, repetition, timing, anatomy for motion) to create digital works of art and design. For this assignment, you will research the movements of animals in a somewhat natural habitat to gather information about how they move. You will conduct this research with the purpose of drawing and animating them on paper or on your computer. Watch the following video published by the Smithsonian Institute on YouTube that shows how lion cubs move and walk. Then, draw at least four key frame, between four and eight images, that you can use to animate a cartoon lion cub like Simba. Consider making a flip book to help you with this lesson.

The video below is an example of a walking lion cub animation. It is published by Bethany Mathon on YouTube and you can watch it to help you get an idea of how to complete this assignment.

Finally, in the following video published on YouTube by Drawing Animals – How To Draw, an artist shows you how to draw Simba from The Lion King. This will help you to draw and animate a lion cub for this assignment.
