At McAllen Public Library, we believe Libraries are for Everyone, and we strive to create an inclusive environment that welcomes community members from all walks of life. In this area of our Main Library, you’ll find an art exhibit, a café, a bookstore, our Welcome Desk, and the Meeting Center. Read below to learn more about each of these spaces and how they can enhance your visit.

After stepping into the building, patrons are greeted by a digital screen showcasing city announcements, upcoming events, and special programs. Just beyond the screen is our Welcome Desk, where library staff are ready to assist with a variety of needs.

Whether you’re looking for directions to specific areas, seeking information about daily events, or needing help with library services, the Welcome Desk is your go-to spot for guidance and support. It’s the perfect starting point for navigating everything the Main Library has to offer.

Located near the Welcome Desk at the Main Library, our motorized scooters are available for visitors to borrow for up to two hours while inside the library. Just ask for the key at the Blue Welcome Desk when you’re ready to roll!

MPL Advocates Bookstore

The bookstore offers gently used books donated by the community and books removed from our library collection. Other articles include DVDs and CDs. Every item you buy helps fund programs, services, and resources that benefit our community. It’s a great way to discover new favorites while giving back!

The Library’s bookstore is staffed by volunteers, officially known as the Advocates of McAllen Public Library. If you are interested in volunteering at the library, please visit the City of McAllen Human Resources Office to fill out a Volunteer Application. Applications can also be picked up inside the bookstore. The Human Resources office is located inside City Hall at 1300 Houston Avenue and can be reached at (956) 681-3111.

Rise & Shine Café

McAllen Public Library is proud to feature the Rise & Shine Café as the exclusive caterer for all Meeting Center events, while also serving as the perfect spot for a quick study break. Whether you need a simple cup of coffee or a hearty meal to stay energized, the café has everything you need to keep you going.

Conveniently located at our Main Library, the Rise & Shine Café exclusively serves freshly baked goods, sweets, and breads from Breadsmith.

Lobby Gallery

Spanning the distance from the library’s entrance to the auditorium, the Lobby Gallery showcases museum-quality art that can be enjoyed during normal library hours. Each piece is paired with descriptive text panels. 

The corridor not only connects key areas of the library but also provides a cultural experience, transforming a simple walkway into a thoughtfully curated art space for the community.

Meeting Center at McAllen Public Library

The Meeting Center encompasses both indoor and outdoor rental spaces, providing the perfect backdrop for professional and social events alike. With McAllen Public Library as your setting, every gathering becomes an inspiring and memorable occasion.

The Meeting Center offers a variety of spaces, including a 176-seat auditorium, conference rooms, meeting rooms, a board room, and electronic classrooms—all equipped with modern audio/visual technology. Whether you’re planning a large presentation or a small gathering, these versatile venues provide everything you need for a successful event.
