DESIGN PROPOSAL
The site brings with itself the unpredictable nature that is the result of dwellings evolving and adapting over the years. The intimacy that it creates between the buildings is indeed magical.
But it makes me ask a compelling question, “As an Architect is there a way to organize this magic and rediscover it ? to recreate the same intimacy but with a new flavour?
The Greco-Roman “V I L L A” provides an excellent example for exploration as with itself it brings Order and Hierarchy that completely contrasts the village’s spatial quality while maintaining familiarity in style
The “Villa” introduces into the equation it’s grandeur and the “Village” adds it’s romantic spatial quality where small streets open up into courtyards.
What if the “Villa” becomes the Grand Space for the public that is used for gatherings and celebration, a Public Domain that the people of Kato-Petali lack but with it’s Hierarchy the Villa slowly transitions into thosE small courtyards that let you enter into those hospitable units? i.e the Village.
