A little about me
My name is Domari Daniel, and I am a cybersecurity student at Old Dominion University. I am currently building my technical foundation in areas such as Linux systems, networking, and security fundamentals. I am especially interested in how secure system administration and defensive security can protect organizations from real-world threats. During my time at ODU, I aim to strengthen my hands-on skills and earn industry-relevant certifications. My long-term goal is to work in a cybersecurity role where I can help secure critical systems and continuously grow as a security professional.
HOW I GOT HERE
I became interested in cybersecurity after realizing how much technology affects everyday life and how important it is to keep systems safe. I was always the person people asked for help with their devices, and I enjoyed solving problems and figuring out how things worked. After high school, I wanted a career that was stable, challenging, and meaningful, so I started studying cybersecurity at Tidewater Community College. Earning my associate degree confirmed that I was on the right path, and transferring to Old Dominion University helped me continue building my skills.
Reflections of CYSE 270 – Linux Systems for Cybersecurity
Lab 4 introduced me to managing user and group accounts in Linux. I learned how to create users, assign them to groups, and modify account settings using commands like useradd, groupadd, and usermod. One challenge was keeping track of the different command options, but practicing each step helped me understand how permissions and access control work behind the scenes. This lab showed me how important proper account management is for maintaining a secure system. My main takeaway is that controlling who has access to what is a core part of cybersecurity, and these skills will be useful in more advanced labs and real-world environments.
Background and Education
I am a cybersecurity student based in Virginia Beach, currently building my technical foundation in system administration, networking, and defensive security. I enjoy hands‑on learning and working with Linux, and I am focused on developing the skills needed for real-world security roles.

Career Beginnings
I first became interested in technology by working with computers and figuring out how to solve everyday technical problems. That early curiosity pushed me toward cybersecurity as a field where I could keep learning and work on challenges that matter.
Continued Success
I plan to continue strengthening my technical skills by practicing regularly, completing hands‑on labs, and staying updated on new cybersecurity tools and threats. I want to keep strengthening my experience with Linux, networking, and defensive security so I can continue building the skills needed for more advanced coursework and future opportunities in cybersecurity.
