Nate Jimerson HIGH DIVER

About Nate

I have been involved in acrobatics like gymnastics and diving for almost my entire life. My career started out when I started in competitive gymnastics at the age of 5. I competed at a high level until the age of 12. Being forced out of the sport due to financial restrictions I then dabbled and ventured out into extreme sports like skateboarding and snowboarding. Once I turned 15, I decided to pick up the sport of diving. I knew that my gymnastics background could easily transition into the sport, yet, starting at a later age then most, I had a lot of catching up to do. I eventually enrolled at Saint Cloud State University where I competed at the Division II college level for 4 years. I had a very successful career becoming a 3-time National Champion, 8-time All-American, and NCAA diver of the year. I was also featured in 2009 Sports Illustrated Faces in the Crowd.

After competing collegially, I discovered show diving in the summer of 2009. This would be my first introduction to the sport of High Diving. For 3 years, I travelled around the US performing in shows at fairs and parks. I knew that I was passionate about performing and high diving but had bigger ambitions. I had the drive to find performing opportunities year-round that would continue to build and shape me into the athlete that I am today. I worked at Seawold San Antonio in an aquatic show that had Russian Swing. This was a new apparatus that would really open up the options to the world of performing at a high level. I then auditioned for the show ‘The House of Dancing Water’ that was created by the late Franco Dragone. I performed in this show in Macau for over 6 years, perfecting my high diving skills and utilizing the russian swing to learn harder and more difficult dives.

In 2018, I was invited to join a Red Bull cliff diving camp hosted in Austria at Area 47. That same year I was invited as a wildcard diver to compete in my very first Red Bull Cliff Diving event in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. I have now competed at 5 different Red Bull events as a wildcard diver. As the sport is continuing to grow and gain traction, countries are now forming clubs and teams. I am currently ranked as the 15th diver in the world and the 4th ranking diving on team USA. Each step of success in my career has launched me closer and closer to reaching my goals. I have more dreams and ambitions to yet achieve in this sport and am excited for what the future will hold for me!

I love high diving because it continues to challenge me in a different way than other sports, hobbies, and jobs. I am constantly being pushed out of my comfort zone; and that allows me to grow and develop as an individual, both mentally and physically. What I love about this sport is that it really is just you and the water. One has to have complete faith and confidence in oneself that they have prepared themself well enough to perform the dives that they want to do. And when you combine the outside factors that are out of one's control like: wind, temperature, platform/cliff conditions, water variables, all these other things. It is how one reacts and responds to these extra challenging conditions that really show how one can handle and manage all of these conditions; ones that you can control, and the ones you can not! I truly believe that it is within these critical moments that define how one carries themself throughout life
