A Message from the Headteacher

Welcome again to our news – I hope that nobody has melted! Thank you to those who have been able to support our children in the warm weather – hats, cream, water etc. certainly all help!

I must start with a nod to ‘Thank a Teacher.’ This was a day earlier this week and provides me with an opportunity to again thank every adult at Birkwood who works so kindly and expertly with our wonderful children. Genuinely, our staff team make me extremely proud, and I thank them enormously for everything that they do. To have the privilege of seeing them up close with the children is something that I feel privileged to have the opportunity to do.

We were subject to a Local Authority Writing Moderation this week. It was fabulous to be able to share the hard work of our Year 6 Authors! The overall quality of the work was terrific. Again, I thank the Year 6 staff for their input and congratulate the children thoroughly upon their sterling efforts.

Please see the below from our partners at Compass Be. They do an excellent job around children’s mental health.

Our new to families app, ‘Arbnor’ is live. I remind families that you can update your children’s details – having up to date information is essential for safeguarding reasons. Thank you for this.

Reception/ FS2 stay & play was terrific. Meeting our new families (some parents who were in my class too!) was brilliant. Thank you to the team for making the afternoon so successful; some children weren’t keen to go home!

This week Mrs. Rennison & Miss Milnes hosted a Parents' Morning to showcase the children's fantastic work. Thank you to the many parents who were able to come and see us. We have some lovely photos to share below.

Our first ‘Summer Fayre Non-Uniform Day’ has been held today. Thank you for supporting us.

The following weeks plans are as follows:

  • Week 2 27th June – Smellies
  • Week 3 4th July – Bottles
  • Week 4 11th July – Buns and Cakes

I sent out a letter regarding everyday uniform at Birkwood. Thank you as always for your understanding.

Next week looks exciting! It’s our Reception trip to Williams Den, our Year 4 brass event at the Metrodome, the Summer Disco will be here and it’s the Barnsley Schools’ Drama Festival too!

Please enjoy a hot and terrific weekend and as always factor in some valuable family time together (with some sun cream on.)
