Colmore Junior School

Spring term week: 29

Highlights of the week

The sunshine has certainly brought a fresh energy to the school this week! The children have been busy exploring our new playground equipment and learning the art of French skipping and Cat’s Cradle after an assembly demonstration. Looking ahead, we are bracing ourselves for some high-speed fun next week with the arrival of twelve new space hoppers. With the funds raised last week, we will be looking at some larger equipment for the children.  It would be great to add a new trim trail or climbing frame. In sports news, a huge congratulations to the boys' football team for their stellar performance last Friday; they have officially secured a spot in the league play-offs! We are also rooting for our girls' football team as they head into three league matches this afternoon—good luck, team! Wishing you all a relaxing weekend and a lovely Bank Holiday.

On Monday, our EcoKids had a great time taking part in the City Nature Challenge in the Thrive gardens at Kings Heath Park! They found lots of pond snails, dragonfly nymphs and beautiful butterflies, along with a host of gorgeous spring flowers and plants!

Mr Gale introduced the children to lots of new playground games in assembly this week. We have French skipping, cups and balls, cat’s cradles and of course skipping!

Congratulations to the boys football team who competed last Friday evening. They took part in the last of the league matches before the finals night in May. Won 3-0, drew 0-0, won 1-0.

Year 5 have been taking part in their Charanga music lessons this half term and been learning to play and sing The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Here’s 5B performing their version!

These two superstars in Year 5 have managed to get all seven of their principles postcards! They are now proud owners of a principles badge!
It was 3Ps turn to take part in Forest School this week. They got out in the garden to create some wonderful pictures on wood and find out all about Forest school with Mr Hughes.

4R made models of a river as part of our geography work. We looked at features like source, mouth, upper course, middle course and lower course.

A group of children set up a chess club with Mrs Khan this week. They worked hard to use their strategy to try and beat their opponents!

The newsletters are also accessible on the news section of our school website.
