This is from 2021 report on VSM
Last newsletter we reported on the graduation of our first School of Ministry. We have since started our next School with 25 new students from around the country, double our first enrolment. And this show it happened.. With a major downturn in localchurch giving, our nationalfinances had taken a major hit. This meant that we didn't havethe funds for student transportand accommodation, and, alongwith Covid, meant that we had toeither cancel the next school orrethink our strategy.
So .. I (David) reluctantly agreedto trial a 'bridge' course online,i.e. bonus course for pastgraduates and first course of anew school. The course was on planting'Wholistic Resource Centre'churches.
I never thought I'd say this...not being too been a fan of remote education, but it was amazing!
Contrary to all expectations it turned out much better than our normal face-to-face classes, and has provided us with a model for the future.
Instead of the effort and cost of'shipping in' one, or maybe two students at the most, from each region or church, spending two weeks with them, and hoping that they got enough of a handle on the material to implement it back home, we ended up with FOUR classes around the country, facilitated by our grads. We ended up training over thirty students at a fraction of the cost ..four ready-made teams!
While not all attendees took the training for credit, they all got equipped and are involved in the visioning and related projects throughout the country.
Covid or not, this seems to be the way to go for a good portion of our future schools. The 'Wholistic Resource Centre' model is a model of church planting that also provides practical training and up-skilling in the areas of sustainable agriculture, business as mission, First Responders training,as well as justice and advocacy.
Our desire is to both start projects,as well as bless and partner with what God is already doing in local communities though existing churches and local initiatives. We're seeing leaders emerge with avision and heart for much more than our own little denomination.
Very exciting!! Kinda looks like Kingdom to me :)
