We have had a fabulous start to the academic year, thank you to all the parents and carers who have supported make it as smooth as possible.
Attendance matters!
Thank you to all of the parents who have supported by ensuring their children are in school every single day. We are trying to hard to improve our attendance this year. If your child is unwell, please make sure you ring the office and discuss with our office staff, who will happily offer some advice. If in doubt, send your child in and let us know they're not feeling 100%, if they are unwell throughout the day, we will ring you straight away!
The Department of Education have conducted some research into attendance, the impact on KS2 attainment, and the effect this can have on later life:
'Higher KS2 attainment is associated with higher lifetime earnings. Each day of school missed is, on average, equivalent to £750 of lifetime earnings lost.'
support Spotlight - separation anxiety
Separation anxiety is how we describe the feelings some children have when they are apart from those make them feel safest - often their parents or carers. Most babies and children will find separation hard at times.
Starting school is a big step for children and their families. Most children will have some days when they are not keen to go. For some, the early weeks and months at school can be tough, as they adjust to new people and experiences.
You can help your child settle by:
- Talking to them about the routine of the school day, so they know when you will be there to collect them
- Having a short but special goodbye and the same for hello at the end of the day. It could be a funny handshake, some special words that you say to each other or a rhyme. These routines can help your child build confidence and feel secure in the routine.
- Practice relaxation techniques they can use when they feel stressed or worried
- Build in time to be with your child after school and at weekends. Encourage them to talk about their day and their feelings.
