TRIP TO SAATCHI GALLERY & TATE BRITAIN

Y13 A Level Art & Design students visited the Saatchi Gallery and Tate Britain to support and inspire their exam unit entitled 'Origins'. The trip gave the students an opportunity to experience a wide range of contemporary and historical artworks first-hand, helping them to explore different creative avenues into their exam unit project.

The 40th anniversary exhibition, 'The Long Now' at the Saatchi Gallery celebrated 4 decades of the gallery's influence on contemporary Art. The exhibition brought together a wide selection of works from artists that have shaped thh gallery's history. The exhibition featured artists such as Damien Hirst, Richard Wilson, Jenny Saville, Gavin Turk and Tim Noble. The exhibition showcased a diverse range of media such as painting, sculpture, installation and photography. For students, the show provided an opportunity to see how artists experiment with material, scale and concept to communicate powerful ideas.

Following on from the Saatchi Gallery, the students then visited Tate Britain which was a stark contrast to the historical collections of Tate Britain. At the Saatchi Gallery, the Artwork was bolder and more experimental, often exploring modern, social and political themes. Tate Britain presents more of a chronological journey through British Art history, allowing student to observe how artistic styles and subject matter has evolved over time.

The gallery trip will hopefully stimulate creativity, offering new perspectives that students can use drive their exam project forward to produce exciting and original outcomes.
