THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK

Dear Bluejay Family,

As we prepare to begin another exciting academic year at St. Cecilia, I want to remind you that we have just over one week before school begins on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. This preparation time can be both thrilling and overwhelming as we gather supplies, finalize plans, and adjust our routines.

How perfect then, is the message of this weekend’s gospel? In John 6:1-15, Jesus performs the miracle of feeding the 5,000. With just five barley loaves and two small fish, Jesus provided an abundance of food, ensuring that everyone had enough to eat. He even had twelve baskets left over! This passage is a powerful reminder that God provides for us abundantly, even when we feel we do not have enough.

As we approach the new school year, know that God’s grace will provide us with everything we need. Whether it's school supplies, time management, or emotional readiness, trust that God will multiply our efforts and provide in ways we may not expect.

I look forward to welcoming you and your children back to school next week!

Grace & Peace,

Erin B. Henry

Principal

PERSONNEL UPDATE

Please welcome Mr. Daniel McNair to the Bluejay family as our new Jr. High Science Teacher. A Teurlings graduate of 2016, Daniel served in the United States Air Force/Louisiana Air National Guard before completing his degree at UL-Lafayette. He has also served many years as an assistant coach for TCHS Cross Country.

Also joining our band of Bluejays this year is Mrs. Megan Gabriel. Megan is an SCS alum who comes to us from Milton Elementary, where she served as a substitute teacher and RTI tutor before moving into the registrar’s position. She will serve as a Kindergarten Aide. Her two daughters will be joining us as well.

Please congratulate Mrs. Lacia Boudreaux on her new role as our Algebra I teacher! Mrs. Boudreaux's familiar face and love for her students and mathematics will serve our Bluejays well.

Also taking on a new hat is Mrs. Denise Hebert. Mrs. Hebert is a passionate and experienced teacher of 8th grade Math, and we know she will do a phenomenal job teaching one section this year!

Last, but not least, please welcome Mrs. Ashley Sonnier to her new role as our Alumni Relations Coordinator. Ashley will also spend a little time during the week assisting our teachers on the 3rd floor. Her considerable gifts and talents as well as her passion for our school's history will be put to good use in maintaining an accurate database and making sure our alums remain connected to SCS!

After School Care Registration is open!

If you are interested in your child attending morning and/or after school care for

the 24-25 school year, please fill out the attached form by July 31, 2024. The 2024-2025 After School Care Handbook is available on Family Portal for your reference. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Dorothy Trahan, After Care Manager at asc@scsbluejays.org.

School Lunch Program

It is the policy of the Diocese of Lafayette that all elementary students must participate in the School Nutrition Program. Students may not bring bag lunches to school. If your child has specific dietary needs, the “USDA Meal Modification Form” should be completed and signed by a physician.

SCHOOL UNIFORMS

Please note that effective August 2027 ALL uniforms MUST have the new branded approved crest/logos. Use UNIFORM POLICY 2024-25 as a reference when preparing for the school year. We look forward to seeing everyone soon.

Looking Ahead

First school Mass will be on THURSDAY, August 15, at 8:30am. This is a Holy Day of Obligation so we will attend on Thursday instead of Wednesday.

Our summer AR testing sessions have been well underway and we are so proud of our bluejays for working towards their summer AR requirements.

Please make sure to visit our website HERE to get all of the information you need for summer reading skills and requirements for students entering grades 1-8.

Students in grades 6-8 | Testing Center Update

Students and parents, in an effort to best support our students in their academic success, the following has been updated in the Student/Parent Handbook. Please note the important change.

The primary option will be to use the make up test center in the Library Lab classroom. Testing sessions will be on Monday/Wednesday/Thursday afternoons from 2:45-3:20 PM and Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday/Friday mornings from 7:20-7:55AM. There will be a total of 8 testing opportunities a week. If a student is 10 minutes late to a testing session, they will be denied the opportunity to take the test that day.

A 1 week (5 day) makeup timeline for assessments will begin the day students return to school (including if a session was held that morning). After one week (5 days), the student will only have an opportunity to obtain a maximum of 70% of the assessment grade.

Along with our incoming faculty liasons for the 2024-2025 school year, Mrs. Hailey Fontenot (conentrating in grades 4-8) and Mrs. Ella York (concentrating grades 1-3) have spearheaded the efforts for 4-H this upcoming school year as parent volunteers.

“…for my club, my community, my country and my world.”

Dear Bluejay Family,

We are almost ready to begin! All of our fall sports teams are underway with practices. I will be meeting next week to begin discussion for our Fall sport with our League Committee. After that meeting we will look to schedule our fall sports games, meets, and matches. We are excited to have two 5th and 6th grade, 7th grade, and 8th grade volleyball again. We are looking to add some more boy runners for cross country so we can field a team. Our girl team is fully staffed. Both of our 5/6th and 7/8th grade football teams are equipped and ready as well.

Our SCS Cheerleaders returned from camp last week with awesome results! Once again, they represented us with class and professionalism. Special thanks to Coaches Taylor Serio and Ashley Sonnier for guiding the girls as they look to provide school spirit all year long.

The St. Cecilia Cheerleaders recently attended SCA Cheer Camp at the University of Louisiana @ Lafayette. The girls had a great time learning new material, skills, & stunts to use throughout the year. The squad received a spirit stick each night and blue ribbons for all evaluations. The team also received the following awards:

  • Staff Award - This was given to the squad who exemplified the SCA Motto: God first, family & friends second, & cheerleading third.
  • Award of Excellence - 2nd Runner Up

The following cheerleaders were given medals and named All Americans by the SCA staff:

  • Macy André
  • Maci Fontenot
  • Peyton Guilbeau
  • Hannah Leger

We are so proud of our Bluejay cheerleaders!! Awesome job, girls!!

We are streamlining the information that we will put out each week. In order to do this all athletic information will be on the school website.
