DECLARING A MAJOR EXCLUSIVELY FOR ESTACADO EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Introduction

Due to the unique credit earning opportunities of Estacado Early College High School (ECHS) students, most must declare majors before they graduate. Texas law requires that students be in a degree plan by the semester after they reach 30 credit hours. That means we want students to be working toward their specific, best-fit major before graduating high school.

ECHS Students become familiar with TTU Online platforms as they complete their first college courses, including:

  • TTU email

  • Raider Success Hub

Junior Year

FALL SEMESTER

Partner with University Career Center

Focus2Career ASSESSMENT

The Focus2Career assessment is ideal for 1st and 2nd year college students who are interested in exploring majors and careers.

FOLLOW-UP PRESENTATION

Students will have a follow-up presentation with Career Center staff (virtually or in-person if possible) to provide general overview of assessment results and their meanings.

INDIVIDUAL VIRTUAL APPOINTMENTS

Students will schedule individual virtual appointments with Career Center counselors during AVID to go over their specific personal results.

SPRING SEMESTER

eXplore Advising and Individual Appointments

eXplore ADVISING PROGRAM

Students will complete the eXplore Advising program through TTU University Advising (online modules and quizzes) whose goal is to collaborate with students on the best route towards their intended path, as well as to help them explore new pathways.

MEETINGS WITH UNIVERSITY ADVISORS

After completing online modules, students connect with an eXplore advisor who can provide information on their path to choosing a major.

End of Junior Year/ Beginning of Senior Year: Students are highly encouraged to complete their FAFSA and apply to TTU, or school of their choice.

SENIOR YEAR

FALL SEMESTER

Majors/Minors fair on TTU Campus to give ECHS students face-time with advisors and departmental personnel from degree programs across TTU and access to literature, contacts, and resources the departments put an emphasis on for students.

After the fair, students can connect with their future departmental and major-specific advisors about requirements and procedures to formally declare their major.

Students must communicate/meet with the advisor of their desired program to fill out the Academic Transfer form required to declare a major!

SPRING SEMESTER

ECHS students who have already applied and been accepted as full-time TTU students will be connected with staff from Financial Aid, Student Success Specialists, First-Gen and MentorTech programs, Housing, Student Engagement, and more.

Undecided students will continue to be counseled on their options.
