Outstanding NAPLAN results

I am pleased to share that the recent release of NAPLAN results has highlighted some significant achievements for our school. We have seen an impressive uplift in Mean Scale Scores across both Literacy and Numeracy, exceeding the goals set in our four-year School Excellence Plan within just our first year. We are excited to continue refining our processes to ensure consistent growth in the years to come. Of particular note are the outstanding achievements of our students from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island backgrounds in both Years 7 and 9, who performed well above the state average. This success is a testament to our effective Literacy and Numeracy strategies, as well as the dedication of our staff in embedding these essential skills across the curriculum.

Ski Trips

Our Year 9 students have just returned from an exciting Ski Trip, where they had the opportunity to learn new skills and refine their existing sporting abilities. These enriching experiences are only possible thanks to the dedication and hard work of our staff, some of whom have spent the last three weeks preparing for and supervising the camp. Their commitment to providing our students with such valuable opportunities is truly commendable!

Kingy Bake Off Mystery Challenge

This year’s Kingscliff High School Bake Off was as huge success. The students had a blast, and so did the teachers! A special thank you to Mrs Hellier and the Kitchen Staff who did the bulk of the preparation. Mrs Buckroyd also assisted on the day with judging and supporting students. Congratulations to this year’s winners Olive Thomson and Macey Ward.

Turning Tide

Our Year 11 Drama students and Drama Ensemble recently had the opportunity to showcase their talents alongside students from our community high schools, including Banora Point, Tweed River, and Murwillumbah High Schools. This memorable performance took place on 6 August at the Murwillumbah Civic Centre, providing our students with the chance to engage with an authentic and enthusiastic audience. A special thank you goes to Mrs Stafford for her guidance and support in making this event possible.

STEM Challenge Day

Following last week's exciting AVISTA STEM show, which focused on key STEM topics relevant to the defence industry, I am pleased to announce that our Year 7 students will soon have the opportunity to participate in the upcoming STEM Challenge Day – One Earth, One Future Sustainability Challenge, scheduled for 19 September. The AVISTA show featured engaging demonstrations, a virtual reality challenge, and an AI robot, all designed to spark interest in STEM careers and pathways, particularly within the defence sector. I encourage students to check the notices and speak with Mr. Wiggins for more details about this fantastic opportunity.

State Senior Music Camp

Kingscliff High School brothers Bodhi (year 12) and Austin (year 11) were once again successful in their application to State Senior Music Camp this year! Joining another approximately 300 dedicated student musicians in Sydney at the end of Term 2 for 5.5 days of intensive playing, learning and entertaining from top tier tutors.

They both say there is nothing like it and encourage fellow musicians and vocalists to give it a go, noting that the friendships formed with other like minded peers is invaluable.

The pair each began learning brass instruments at Banora Point Primary School; Bodhi plays trombone and Austin plays trumpet.

Stage 5 Science

During the stage 5 Science unit on tectonic plates our Year 10 students produced their own fault line models. This was a creative and relevant way to demonstrate their new knowledge.

Big Picture learning experience at Project Immersive

The Big Picture design at Kingscliff High School gives students opportunities beyond school to meet with business owners and learn from their real world experiences.

Last week the Year 12 Big Picture students heard from Co-owner of Project Immersive, Damian Bowden speak about his journey since leaving high school to studying for his Bachelors Degree in Business and Psychology, and his previous employment and experience with various escape room companies. He spoke of his passions and interests and what led him to be involved in starting up a successful escape room business in Brisbane.

Damian also shared his business insights in terms of working as part of a team, utilising the strengths that individuals can bring to a workplace and the multiple skills and business considerations required to bring an escape room to life including employing the right staff, sourcing equipment and actors, storyboarding, writing, computer technology, lighting, building, social media and marketing and creating a memorable customer experience.

The visit to Project Immersive was not only informative for our students but also a hands on, creative experience they will not forget.

Thank you to Damian and his team for this fun and engaging learning experience.

Kingscliff High Big Picture students represent on student panel at QLD Forum

The Year 12 students formed a student panel where they spoke to an audience of university leaders, school principals and teaching staff about their passions and how Big Picture has influenced their self development, their approach to learning and their post school pathways.

The students were highly praised for their confidence in public speaking, their enthusiasm towards their learning, and their positive contribution to the forum.
