DESIGN PROPOSAL
Envisioning a new way of living in the heart of Atlanta - a community that seeks to blend the urban and suburban. The goal is to establish an intentional community on the adjacent to the MARTA station, where people can live, work, and play in a vibrant and sustainable neighborhood. Designed to interact with the MARTA station through a pedestrian-friendly connection, providing easy access to public transit. Encourage pedestrian and alternative transportation methods by removing the requirement of a garage. Aimed to create a sense of community with a curving internal street lined with trees and facades creating a corridor defining the public realm, while also maintaining personal privacy with internal courtyards and backyard courts. Promoting neighborliness by providing an internal back alley to a block, allowing residents to connect and socialize in a safe and inviting environment. Households should be flexible, so multi-bedroom units are generated by the merging of original single-bedroom units. Additionally, the potential for an Additional Dwelling Unit (ADU) to allow for a range of living options or adapt to suit other functional needs. Respecting the surrounding context of the Edgewood-Candler Park neighborhood, the scheme will not intrude on the adjacent park or single-family houses but rather integrate with the existing fabric of the community through the connection to existing alleys and rooflines. Ultimately creating a community that fosters connection, sustainability, and balance.
