A Modest Model for Growth Tips on revitalizing your local shoot and securing support

Want to see your local USA event reach new heights? Mark Woodard and the USA events team suggest a few tried-and-true strategies.

1. The Personal Touch

If time allows, send individual, personalized emails to contractors and vendors you do business with. Or pick up the phone and call them.

2. Identify Your Partners

Look at the vendors who provide services to your union members (attorneys, tool companies like DeWalt, etc.). These are your natural business partners. Remind them that supporting the USA is a way to give back to the members who support them.

3. Don’t Fear the No

Rejection is part of the process. If a sponsor says no, stay professional and move on to the next one. Even a small donation is a win.

4. Engage the Whole Family

Create space for everyone. Push for all-women’s teams and youth events to ensure the shoot feels like a community gathering rather than a business meeting.

5. Be a Guiding Light

If you have a good lead, take initiative on local donations—lunches, gear, and supplies—to keep costs down and community engagement high.
