Son of a Beech Logs to Chopping boards

One of the Wordsmith Crafts activities involves creating "Making Spaces" where people can use hands on traditional art and craft skills to enter into their heritage. Simon Lidwell is the lead artist, and sometimes describes this as "collecting resources to set up a seed crystal in a saturated solution and watching what grows. Once the space dissolves, the solution is more saturated and so each time it gets easier."

Making logs into more than simply firewood, using simple tools. For example, some chopping boards.

The log was split using wedges, then hewn to a rough shape by hand.
The process retains the character of the tree - whilst hopefully making something functional!
Linseed oil to protect and preserve.
And more things are being made!
