Principally Speaking
Thank you to everyone who joined us for Open House! It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces in our halls. One of the best parts of the evening was watching students proudly show their families their classrooms, their work, and all the learning they’ve been doing. Moments like that truly make our school shine. ✨We also appreciate your support of the Book Fair! Thank you for being such an important part of our Jones community! ¡Gracias a todos los que nos acompañaron en la jornada de puertas abiertas! Fue maravilloso ver tantas caras sonrientes en nuestros pasillos. Uno de los mejores momentos de la noche fue ver a los estudiantes mostrar con orgullo a sus familias sus aulas, su trabajo y todo lo que han aprendido. Growing Respect: Personal Space & Boundaries
This month in our counseling lessons, students are learning about personal space and boundaries. Personal space is the physical area around our bodies that helps us feel safe and comfortable. Boundaries are the limits we set for ourselves and respect in others to protect our bodies, feelings, and personal rights. Teaching children about these concepts at an early age helps them develop healthy relationships, improve peer interactions, and build confidence in expressing their needs appropriately. Throughout the month, students will explore what personal space looks and feels like, how to recognize when someone may be feeling uncomfortable, and how to respond respectfully. They are practicing using clear and polite language such as “Please stop,” “I need some space,” or “No, thank you.” We are also discussing the importance of listening when others communicate their boundaries and understanding that everyone’s comfort level may be different. These skills are essential for fostering empathy, mutual respect, and positive social connections. Families play an important role in reinforcing these lessons at home. You can support your child by modeling respectful behavior, such as asking permission before hugging or engaging in physical play. Encourage your child to express their feelings using words and validate them when they speak up about needing space. Practicing role-play scenarios—such as standing in line, playing with siblings, or interacting with friends—can help children apply these skills in real-life situations. Additionally, praising your child when they respect someone else’s boundaries strengthens positive behavior. By working together, we can help students understand that their bodies and feelings matter, and that showing respect for others’ boundaries is an important part of being a responsible and caring member of our school community. Volunteer Sign Up
Many hands make light work and we love our volunteers. We depend on our parents and volunteers to help make the best learning environment that we can for our kids. We encourage you to be an approved volunteer to help make a difference at school, sponsor fine arts events, chaperone field trips and work with students. All volunteers must submit an online application (every year) and upload a copy of your unexpired government-issued photo ID to the volunteer application.
Muchas manos facilitan el trabajo y amamos a nuestros voluntarios. Dependemos de nuestros padres y voluntarios para ayudar a crear el mejor ambiente de aprendizaje posible para nuestros hijos. Lo alentamos a ser un voluntario aprobado para ayudar a hacer la diferencia en la escuela, patrocinar eventos de bellas artes, ser acompañante en excursiones y trabajar con los estudiantes.
