Important Reminder: Please can all families remember that they must book their child's meal on ParentPay before 8am each day as it helps the kitchen staff cater accordingly. This includes children who are in receipt of Free School Meals and those children in all classes up to Year 5 who are entitled to UPFSM. Thank you for your support with this matter.

Ydych chi'n gwybod y gwahaniaeth rhwng Prydau Ysgol am Ddim a Phrydau Ysgol am Ddim Cyffredinol? / Do you know the difference between Free School Meals and Universal Primary Free School Meals? Er mwyn ceisio helpu rhieni i ddeall ac i sicrhau bod pob disgybl sy’n gymwys ar gyfer 'Prydau Ysgol am Ddim (PYDd)' gyda'i holl fanteision ychwanegol yn elwa, rydym wedi creu ffeithlun i esbonio'r gwahaniaeth.

Prydau Ysgol Am Ddim Cynradd Cyffredinol (PYDdC) - Nod Llywodraeth Cymru yw y bydd pob plentyn mewn ysgol gynradd yng Nghymru yn gymwys i gael Pryd Ysgol am Ddim Cynradd Cyffredinol (PYDdC) erbyn diwedd 2024, waeth beth yw incwm y cartref. Ni fydd ffurflenni i'w llenwi. FFAITH BWYSIG - Nid yw derbyn PYDdC fel hyn yn rhoi'r hawl yn awtomatig i deuluoedd dderbyn budd-daliadau eraill fel grantiau gwisg ysgol. Bydd angen i chi wneud cais PYDd i gael hyn.

PRYDAU YSGOL AM DDIM (PYDd) - Mae gan rai teuluoedd sy'n bodloni meini prawf penodol, er enghraifft y rhai sydd ar incwm is neu sy'n derbyn budd-daliadau penodol, yr hawl i dderbyn Pryd Ysgol am Ddim (PYDd). Ar gais llwyddiannus am PYDd mae teuluoedd yn gymwys i gael budd-daliadau eraill i dalu am gost hanfodion ysgol fel grantiau gwisg ysgol.

Er bod ysgolion wedi bod yn cynnig PUDdC ers 2022, ac mae grwpiau blwyddyn cymwys yn derbyn prydau ysgol am ddim, dylai teuluoedd sy'n gymwys ar gyfer PYDd barhau i ddefnyddio’r broses ymgeisio PYDd i sicrhau nad ydynt yn colli allan ar fudd-daliadau eraill. Yn ogystal â theuluoedd, mae ysgolion hefyd yn elwa o PYDd. Ar gyfer pob plentyn sy'n gymwys i PYDd, mae ein hysgol hefyd yn derbyn cyllid i gefnogi’r dysgwyr.

To try and help parents understand this and ensure that all eligible pupils for the ‘FSM -Free School Meals’ with all its additional benefits have applied, we have created an infographic to explain the difference. Universal Primary Free School Meals (UPFSM) - It is Welsh government's aim that every child in primary school in Wales will be eligible for a Universal Primary Free School meal by the end of 2024, regardless of household income. There will be no forms to fill in. IMPORTANT FACT - Receiving a UPFSM in this way does not automatically entitle families to receive other benefits such as school uniform grants. You may still need to apply for FSM to get this.

FREE SCHOOL MEALS (FSM) - Some families who meet certain criteria, for example those on lower incomes or in receipt of certain benefits, are entitled to receive a Free School Meal (FSM). On successful application for FSM families are then eligible for other benefits to cover the cost of school essentials such as school uniform grants.

Even though schools have been offering UPFSM since 2022, and eligible year groups are receiving free school meals, families who are eligible for FSM should continue to use the FSM application process to ensure they don't lose out on other benefits. As well as families, schools also benefit from FSM. For every child who applies for and is granted an FSM, our school can also access funding to help for school essentials to benefit learners.

Ysgol goedwig /Fforest schools

Mae Ysgol goedwig yn ddull addysgol arloesol sy'n croesawu'r awyr agored fel ystafell ddosbarth. Nod ysgol goedwig yw meithrin datblygiad cyfannol trwy brofiadau awyr agored rheolaidd o fewn amgylchedd naturiol. Nid yn unig y mae ysgol goedwig yn dda i'r amgylchedd, mae hefyd yn hyrwyddo lles corfforol trwy annog chwarae egnïol a symud mewn lleoliad naturiol. Bydd y plant hefyd yn archwilio ac yn datblygu gwytnwch a hunanhyder wrth iddynt lywio trwy heriau a darganfod eu terfynau a'u galluoedd eu hunain.

Yn fwyaf diweddar mae blynyddoedd 1 a 2 wedi bod yn helpu yn y goedwig i blannu rhai glasbrennau Helyg a Draenen Wen. Maen nhw wedi bod yn dysgu pa mor bwysig yw coed i ni ac i'r byd. Mae blynyddoedd 3 a blwyddyn 4 wedi bod yn helpu i glirio’r planwyr ar y balconi yn barod i greu gardd synhwyraidd. Maen nhw hefyd wedi bod yn dysgu am y gwahanol fathau o chwilod, gan greu cynefin penodol allan o’r hen blanwyr. Mae blwyddyn 5 a blwyddyn 6 wedi bod yn creu cennin Pedr allan o ffyn a gwlân. Dysgu’r gwahanol fathau o glymau er mwyn gallu creu lloches a hefyd creu cerfluniau mwd. 

Forest school is an innovative educational approach that embraces the great outdoors as a classroom. At it’s core, forest school aims to cultivate holistic development through regular outdoor experiences within a natural environment. Not only is forest school good for the environment, it also promotes physical well-being by encouraging active play and movement in a natural setting. The children will also explore and develop resilience and self confidence as they navigate through challenges and discover their own limits and capabilities.

Years 1 and 2 have most recently been helping in the forest area to plant some Willow and Hawthorn saplings. They have been learning how important trees are to us and the world. Years 3 and year 4 have been helping to clear the planters on the balcony ready to create a sensory garden. They have also been learning about the different types of bugs, creating a specific habitat out of the old planters. Year 5 and year 6 have been creating daffodils out of sticks and wool. Learning the different types of knots to be able to create a shelter and also creating mud sculptures.

Eisteddfod Yr Urdd

Da iawn i bob un disgybl roedd wedi cystadlu yn yr amrywiaeth o Eisteddfodau'r hanner tymor yma yn Nhrimsaran, Ysgol Y Strade ac yn yr Eisteddfod ysgol. Mae'r ysgol yn falch iawn o'ch holl ymdrechion. Da iawn chi.

Well done to every single pupil who competed in the variety of Eisteddfods this half term in Trimsaran, at Ysgol Y Strade and in our very own school Eisteddfod. The school is very proud of all your efforts. Well done.

Rhaglen Ysgolion Cynradd’ Dysgu gydag Awtistiaeth’ ‘Learning about Autism Primary School Programme’.

Yr hyn sydd i dystio bod cymuned Ysgol Gymraeg Ffwrnes wedi cwblhau yn llwyddiannus am yr eil-dro. 'Rhaglen Ysgolion Cynradd’ Dysgu gydag Awtistiaeth’. Gwnaed hyn ar 14eg o Orffennaf 2020 am y tro cyntaf ac nawr eto am yr eildro ar Fawrth 14eg 2024.

This is to certify that Ysgol Gymraeg Ffwrnes’ school community has for the second time successfully completed 'Learning about Autism Primary School Programme’. This was achieved first on 14th July 2020 and again for the second time on 14th March 2024’.

Meithrin Cymru ac Iwerddon

Am hanner tymor gwych i’n dysgwyr yn y Meithrin! Darllenom y llyfr ‘Llysiau Oliver’, sy’n adrodd stori am fachgen sydd yn blasu llysiau newydd wrth iddynt dyfu yn yr ardd. Buom yn brysur yn gwneud llu o weithgareddau yn seiliedig ar y stori. Mwynheuon olchi a thorri llysiau, yn ogystal â chreu siop llysiau o fewn ein dosbarthiadau. Dysgon ni’r cysyniad o drwm ac ysgafn, ac wedi mwynhau cymharu â phwyso’r llysiau o’r stori. Rydym hefyd wedi bod yn defnyddio gwahanol lysiau i stampio patrymau ar bapur gyda phaent. Yn ystod ein hamseroedd cylch, rydym wedi bod yn trafod y pwysigrwydd o fwyta’n iach, a mynegodd y plant diddordeb mewn sut mae llysiau yn tyfu. Er mwyn archwilio’r diddordeb yma, fe wnaethom ddilyn cyfarwyddiadau i blannu hadau berwr. Rydym wedi bod yn dysgu ac yn arsylwi ar arwyddion y Gwanwyn. Yn ein sesiynau allanol gwelsom lawer o ddail a blodau yn tyfu ar y coed o amgylch yr ysgol. Cawsom lawer o hwyl yn ystod ein sesiynau ymarfer corff wrth i ni ddatblygu ein sgiliau taflu a dal, yn ogystal â’n sgiliau sylw a gwrando wrth i ni chwarae gemau parasiwt. Edrychwn ymlaen at ddechrau paratoi ar gyfer y mabolgampau tymor nesaf. Rydym wedi mwynhau dathlu sawl achlysur megis Dydd Gŵyl Dewi, Diwrnod y Llyfr a Diwrnod Trwyn Coch. Gwnaethom ymdrech wych wrth berfformio rhigymau i’n rhieni yn ystod fore coffi Dydd Gŵyl Dewi.

What a fantastic half term for our learners in the Nursery! We read the book 'Oliver’s Vegetables', which tells a story about a boy who tastes new vegetables as they grow in the garden. We have been busy doing lots of activities based on the story. We have enjoyed washing and cutting vegetables, as well as creating a vegetable shop within our classrooms. We learnt the concept of heavy and light and enjoyed comparing and weighing the vegetables from the story. We have also been using different vegetables to stamp patterns on paper with paint. During our circle times, we have been discussing the importance of healthy eating, and the children expressed an interest in how vegetables grow. To explore this interest, we followed instructions to plant cress seeds. We have been learning and observing the signs of Spring. In our outdoor sessions we saw many leaves and flowers growing on the trees around the school. We have had a lot of fun during our PE sessions as we developed our throwing and catching skills, as well as our attention and listening skills as we played parachute games. We look forward to starting to prepare for Sports Day next term. We have enjoyed celebrating many occasions such as St David's Day, World Book Day and Red Nose Day, and we made a great effort in performing nursery rhymes to our parents during the St David's Day coffee morning.

Derbyn Sbaen a'r Eidal

Rydym ni wedi cael hanner tymor prysur a hwylus iawn. Aethom ni ar ymweliad i Fferm Brynteg ble welsom ni llawer o anifeiliaid gwahanol. Dysgom ni llawer o ffeithiau am yr anifeiliaid fel y mochyn cwta a chawsom y cyfle i ddal a bwydo'r anifeiliaid sef Moon y mochyn a'r alpacas. Daeth rhiant mewn i ddysgu ni sut i wneud pitsa. Roedd y pitsas yn flasus iawn. Hefyd, rydym wedi bod yn torri llysiau er mwyn gwneud cawl a choginio pice ar y maen. Roeddwn ni i gyd yn gyffrous iawn pan gyrhaeddodd 7 wy i'r dosbarth! Buon ni yn arsylwi ar y cywion yn deor ac wedi cael cyfle i ddal y cywion. Rydym wedi bod wrth ein boddau yn peintio blodau'r gwanwyn ac amrywiaeth o luniau yn ymwneud a'r Pasg. Buon ni yn gwrando ar a dysgu Stori'r Pasg. Pasg hapus i chi gyd.

We have had a very busy and fun half term. We went on a visit to Brynteg Farm where we saw many different animals. We learnt many facts about the animals for example the guinea pigs and we had the opportunity to catch and feed the animals like Moon the pig and the alpacas. A parent came in to teach us how to make pizza. The pizzas were very tasty. Also, we have been cutting vegetables to make soup and cooking pizza on the stone. We were all very excited when 7 eggs arrived in the classroom! We observed the chicks hatching and had the opportunity to hold the chicks. We have loved painting spring flowers and a variety of pictures related to Easter. We listened to and learned the Easter Story. Happy Easter to you all.

Blwyddyn 1 Awstria a Ffrainc

Dyma ni wedi cyrraedd diwedd tymor arall a dyna dymor prysur oedd hi! Cafodd ein dysgwyr y cyfle i fynd i Sain Ffagan er mwyn cael blas ar beth oedd bywyd fel amser maith yn ôl. Aeth y disgyblion i’r hen ysgol i ddysgu am sut oedd ysgol yn wahanol yn yr hen ddyddiau. Gwelwyd sut oedd y gansen a’r ‘Welsh Not’ yn cael ei ddefnyddio a hefyd sut fath o awyrgylch oedd yn hen ddosbarthiadau. Roedd yn glir i weld bod gwell gan y mwyafrif ysgol nawr i gymharu ag slawer ddydd! Dathlwyd Dydd Gŵyl Dewi ar Fawrth y cyntaf wrth i’r disgyblion canu yn fore coffi'r CRA. Gwelwyd perfformiadau gwych gan y disgyblion, gyda’r holl ymarferion yn talu pwyth. Ysgrifennwyd y disgyblion cyfarwyddiadau ar sut i greu Cawl ar gyfer dydd Gŵyl Dewi. Ar ôl prynu’r cynhwysion, aeth y disgyblion ati i dorri a pharatoi’r llysiau cyn coginio’r cawl. Roedd yr athrawon yn hynod o blês gyda’r gwaith gorffenedig wrth i’r disgyblion defnyddio mapiau meddwl i ysgrifennu cyfarwyddiadau manwl ar sut i goginio cawl. Yn ogystal â hyn, dathlwyd Diwrnod y llyfr wrth i nifer o blant gwisgo i fyny fel ei hoff gymeriad yn llyfr. Edrychwyd y disgyblion am y llyfrau cuddiwyd y cyngor ysgol fel rhan o’r dathliadau, gydag un disgybl blwyddyn 1 yn llwyddiannus! Fel flwyddyn hoffwn ddweud diolch enfawr i’r cyngor ysgol am ei holl waith caled gyda’r helfa llyfrau a hefyd yr heriau gwnewch y pethau bychain. Rydym yn ffodus iawn bod gennym nifer o ddisgyblion cydwybodol sy’n rhoi orau at helpu a chynnig cyfleoedd i bob plentyn. Gobeithio gwnewch chi gyd mwynhau eich gwyliau Pasg ac edrychwn ymlaen at groesawu chi nol ar ddechrau tymor arall. Diolch!

Our learners were fortunate to have the opportunity to visit St Ffagans Museum to get a sense of what life was like in the olden days. The children visited the old school where they were shown the different items used by teachers years ago. The whip and Welsh Not were favourites, with many having a shock at the ferocity of the whip when used correctly. Fortunately, no child was harmed during our visit that day! It became very evident by the end of our visit that the children preferred school as it is now compared to how school used to be. We celebrated Saint David’s day on March 1st by singing in the PTA’s coffee morning. All the practice and hard work paid off as the pupils performed brilliantly in front of a sizable crowd. In preparation for Saint David’s day, we wrote instructions on how to cook cawl. Having been to the shop to buy ingredients, the pupils set about cutting and preparing the food to cook their cawl. Having had first-hand experience, the pupils then wrote detailed instructions on how to cook cawl correctly. This term also saw us celebrate World Book Day in school. Having dressed up as their favourite characters from a book, many children also took part in the book hunt set up by our school council around the local community. As a year group we are extremely grateful to the school council for all their hard work with not only the book hunt but also the ‘Gwnewch y pethau bychain’ challenge list which was created this term. As a school, we are very fortunate to be represented by such a conscientious and hard-working group. Blwyddyn 2 Portiwgal a Sweden

Mae hi wedi bod yn hanner tymor prysur iawn i ddosbarth Portiwgal a Sweden! Mae’r plant wedi bod yn brysur iawn yn paratoi ar gyfer nifer o berfformiadau'r hanner tymor yma. Perfformiwyd yn arbennig o dda yn y Bore Coffi Dydd Gŵyl Dewi, ac eto yn eu gwasanaethau dosbarth. Braf oedd gweld cymaint o’r rhieni yn cefnogi eu plant yn y ddau ddigwyddiad, a’r plant yn eithriadol. Diolch am eich holl ymdrechion i gefnogi’r plant i ddysgu eu llinellau. Hoffem hefyd longyfarch y disgyblion hynny a fynychodd rhagbrofion yr Eisteddfod ar ddechrau mis Mawrth – da iawn i Nancy, Wil, Megan, George K, Jacob, Beauden, Rhys a Jayden. Rydym wedi gweld llawer o’n disgyblion yn gwneud ymdrech arbennig i ddewis opsiwn egnïol ar gyfer cymudo i’r ysgol, diolch i fenter ‘Living Streets’, gyda llawer o’n disgyblion yn cerdded, beicio neu sgwteri i’r ysgol, a rhai hyd yn oed yn parcio yn bellach i ffwrdd a cherdded gweddill y daith. Mae llawer ohonynt wedi derbyn tystysgrif cyflawniad neu fathodyn am eu hymdrechion – hyd yn oed mewn tywydd garw!

Braf oedd gweld cymaint o blant yn gwisgo lan i ddathlu Diwrnod y Llyfr. Fe wnaethon nhw fwynhau ymweld â’r Siop Ffeirio Llyfrau, a dewis llyfr newydd i fynd adref gyda nhw. Da iawn i Efa Gwen a Megan Spuffard (B2 Portiwgal) am ddod o hyd i lyfrau yn y gymuned a gafodd ei guddio gan aelodau’r Cyngor Ysgol. Roedd y disgyblion yn ffodus iawn hefyd i gael y llyfr stori ‘Enfawr’ wedi ei ddarllen iddyn nhw yn rhyngweithiol gan yr awdures ei hun sef Casia William. Aeth y plant yn fwdlyd iawn yn eu sesiynau Ysgol Goedwig, gan blannu betys a moron yn y planwyr uchel, yn ogystal ag adeiladu wigwam o fambŵ a fydd yn cael ei orchuddio â phlanhigion ymlusgol yn fuan. Diolch olaf i’r rhieni a fynychodd ein dosbarth agored – braf oedd gweld cymaint o blant yn dangos eu gwaith a’u hystafell ddosbarth. Roedd yn ffordd wych i ni fel staff ryngweithio â chi i gyd mewn modd anffurfiol.

What a busy half term it has been for Dosbarth Portiwgal and Sweden! Children have been very busy preparing for many performances this half term. They performed extremely well at the St Davids Day Coffee Morning, and again in their class assemblies. It was lovely to see so many of our parents supporting their children at both events, and the children were exceptional. Thank you for all of your efforts in supporting the children with learning their lines. We would also like to congratulate those pupils who attended the Eisteddfod preliminaries at the beginning of March – well done to Nancy, Wil, Megan, George K, Jacob, Beauden, Rhys a Jayden. We have seen many of our pupils making a special effort to choose an active option for their school commute thanks to the Living Streets initiative, with many of our pupils walking, cycling or scootering to school, as well as parking further afield and walking the remaining distance. Many of our pupils have been awarded with an achievement certificate or badge for their efforts – even in some terrible weather conditions!

It was great to see so many children dress up to celebrate World Book Day. They thoroughly enjoyed visiting the Swap Shop and choosing a new book to take home. Well done to Efa Gwen and Megan Spuffard who found a book hidden by our school council in the local community. The children were also very fortunate to have the story ‘Gigantic’ (Enfawr) read remotely them by the author herself, Casia William. Children got very muddy in their Forest School sessions, planting beetroot and carrots in the raised planters, as well as building a wigwam from bamboo, which will soon be covered with creeping plants. A final thank you to those parents who attended our open classroom - it was lovely to see so many children proudly showing off their work and their classroom to their parents, and a great way for us as staff interact with you all on an informal basis.

Blwyddyn 3 Alban a Hwngari

Cafwyd amser prysur unwaith eto ym mlwyddyn 3 yr hanner tymor yma! Rydyn ni wedi bod yn edrych ar ffyrdd o leihau ac ail-ddefnyddio dillad er mwyn helpu’r amgylchfyd. Roedd y ddau ddosbarth wedi cael y cyfle i ddysgu dawns yr ‘Hakka’ i’w perfformio yn yr Eisteddfod ddwl. I gyd-fynd gyda’r ddawns roedd yn rhaid llefaru geiriau’r rhigwm ‘Dau Gi Bach’ a oedd yn her ond yn dipyn o sbort hefyd! Buom ni’n ffodus iawn i gael sesiynau tag rygbi pob dydd Iau gyda myfyrwyr Coleg Sir Gâr. Maent wedi bod yn dysgu ni sut i ddal ac i dderbyn pêl ac am reolau tag rygbi. Mae pawb wedi bod wrth eu boddau yn defnyddio ‘tie dye’ ar grysau T gwyn y tymor yma! Rydyn ni hefyd wedi ymchwilio ar y we sut i newid y crysau T mewn i fagiau. Mae pawb wedi defnyddio’r wybodaeth yma i greu bag yn llwyddiannus.

Ar ddydd Gwener Mawrth 15fed, aethom ni i siop y ‘British Heart Foundation’ yn y dre er mwyn dewis dilledyn i’w uwchgylchu. Dewisodd pob grŵp un dilledyn oedd yn costio £5 neu’n llai. Diolch i Angela a’r staff sy’n gweithio yn y siop am y croeso cynnes. Rydyn ni’n edrych ymlaen at fynd yn ôl i’r siop ar ôl y gwyliau Pasg er mwyn iddynt arddangos a (chroesi bysedd) gwerthu ein dillad am elw! Bydd yr elw yma yn mynd at yr elusen. Ar ôl ymweld â siop y ‘British Heart Foundation’ aethom ni i Asda i brynu cynhwysion ar gyfer coginio Pice ar y Maen. Rydyn ni wedi bod yn dysgu sut i fesur pwysau felly cawsom ni gyfle i ddefnyddio clorian i bwyso ein cynhwysion. Roedd y Pice ar y Maen yn flasus iawn. Ar ôl dewis dilledyn o siop y ‘British Heart Foundation’ aethom ni ar ymweliad i Adran Gelf Coleg Sir Gâr yng Nghaerfyrddin.

Year 3 have had a busy time once again this half term! We have been looking at ways to reduce and reuse clothes in order to help the environment. Both classes had the opportunity to learn the 'Hakka' dance to perform at the school Eisteddfod. Whilst performing the dance they had to recite the words from the rhyme 'Dau Gi Bach' which was a challenge but also a bit of fun too! We were very lucky to have tag rugby sessions every Thursday with the students of Coleg Sir Gâr. They have been teaching us how to catch and receive a ball and about the rules of tag rugby. Everyone has loved using 'tie dye' on white T-shirts this half term. We have also researched on the web how to change the T-shirt into a bag. Everyone has used this information to create a bag successfully. On Friday March 15th, we went to the 'British Heart Foundation' shop in the town centre to choose a garment to upcycle. Each group chose one item of clothing that cost £5 or less. Thanks to Angela and the staff who work in the shop for the warm welcome. We're looking forward to going back to the store after the Easter holidays so they can display and (fingers crossed) sell our clothes for a profit! This profit will go to the charity.

After visiting the 'British Heart Foundation' shop we went to Asda to buy ingredients for cooking Welsh Cakes. We have been learning how to measure weight so we had the chance to use a weighing scale to weigh all of our ingredients. The Welsh Cakes were very tasty! After choosing a garment from the 'British Heart Foundation' shop we went on a visit to the Art Department in Carmarthenshire College in Carmarthen. A big thank you to Angharad Griffiths (Joey's mother and head of the fashion department) for organising a fashion and photography workshop. The learners benefited greatly from working with the lecturers and learned several new ways of upcycling clothes. Following this there was a 'photo shoot' for every group with their garments. Many learners also enjoyed the experience of being on the 'catwalk' to display their clothes!

Blwyddyn 4 Almaen a Swistir

Er ei bod hi di bod yn hanner tymor byr, mae wedi bod yn un prysur tu hwnt! Aethom draw i Ysgol Strade ar gyfer gweithgareddau Actif Sir Gar. Cafodd y plant dipyn o hwyl a sbri wrth ddysgu sgiliau newydd megis paffio-cic, pêl droed, hoci, pêl rwyd, dawnsio, ymarferion ysgol a’r naid hir. Cafodd rhai o flwyddyn 4 y cyfle i ymweld â Pharc y Scartlets i gymryd rhan mewn wyl rygbi a chwarae yn erbyn ysgolion eraill o’r ardal. Rydym wedi dysgu tipyn am hanes ein hardal a fe weithiodd y plant yn arbennig o dda yn eu grwpiau er mwyn creu byrddau gwybodaeth ar gyfer noson rieni.

Although it has been a short half term, it has been an extremely busy one! We attended Strade School for various activities with Actif Sir Gar. The children had lots of fun learning new skills such as kickboxing, football, hockey, netball, dancing, ladder drills and long jump. Some of year 4 had the opportunity to visit Parc y Scarlets in order to take part in a rugby festival and play against other school in the area. We have learnt quite a bit about the history of our local area and the children worked well in their groups in order to create information boards for parents evening.

Blwyddyn 5 Belg a'r Ffindir

Mae blwyddyn 5 wedi bod yn brysur iawn yr hanner tymor yma. Maen nhw wedi cael cyfle i ddilyn cyfarwyddiadau a choginio pice ar y maen, a oedd yn flasus iawn. Buont yn cystadlu yn ein 'Eisteddfod Dwl' drwy greu dawns arddull TikTok i Sospan Fach. Yna buont yn perfformio'r ddawns o flaen Blwyddyn 4,5 a 6 yn y neuadd. Rydym wedi datblygu ein sgiliau addysg gorfforol drwy ymweld â Choleg Sir Gâr a chael sesiynau pêl-droed a rygbi gyda’u myfyrwyr. Cawsant gyfle i gymryd rhan mewn cyfnewid llyfrau ar gyfer Diwrnod y Llyfr. Mae dyddiadur o'u hamser yn Abernant wedi'i ysgrifennu. Mae'n swnio fel eu bod i gyd wedi cael amser gwych. Mae wedi bod yn bleser gwylio eu hanimeiddiadau a gafodd eu creu ar Stickbot Studio ar Ipads y dosbarth. Roedd yn rhaid iddynt animeiddio hadau yn tyfu'n flodyn. Cawsant hefyd y profiad o wylio drama am ansawdd aer a sut i'w wella. Wrth gwrs, rydym wedi bod yn dysgu am y Pasg a’i draddodiadau. Edrychwn ymlaen at dymor yr haf lle gobeithio bydd y tywydd wedi gwella!

Year 5 have been very busy this half term. They have had the chance to follow instructions and cook Welsh cakes, which were delicious. They competed in our 'Eisteddfod Dwl' by creating a TikTok style dance to Sospan Fach. They then performed the dance in front of Years 4,5 and 6 in the hall. We have developed our physical education skills by visiting Coleg Sir Gar and having football and rugby sessions with their students. They had the chance to take part in a book swap for World Book Day. A diary of their time in Abernant has been written. It sounds like they all had a great time. It has been a pleasure watching their animations that were created on Stickbot Studio on the class Ipads. They had to animate seeds growing into a flower. They also had the experience of watching a play about air quality and how to improve it. Of course, we have been learning about Easter and its traditions. We look forward to the summer term where hopefully the weather would have improved!

Blwyddyn 6 Pwyl a Groeg

Mae wedi bod yn bum wythnos gweithgar a phrysur i ni ym mlwyddyn 6! Yn ystod yr hanner tymor yma, rydym wedi parhau i ddysgu am ein thema ‘Ein Cefnfor, Ein Planed’ yn ogystal â chydweithio gyda Phrifysgol Abertawe i gymryd rhan yn y Prosiect SIARC. Mae’r profiad o fod yn rhan o’r Prosiect SIARC wedi bod yn un diddorol a chyffrous iawn. Pwrpas y prosiect oedd i ddysgu am faelgwn yng Nghymru sydd yn rywogaeth mewn peryg erbyn hyn. Dysgom lawer am faelgwn gan gynnwys eu cynefinoedd a ble maent wedi cael eu darganfod o amgylch arfordir Cymru, y nodweddion sy’n eu gwneud yn unigryw i siarcod eraill, eu deiet a sut maent yn hela, a paham maent yn rhywogaeth sydd mewn peryg o farw allan. Ond y peth mwyaf cyffrous oedd defnyddio meddalwedd ‘Tinkercad’ i ddylunio creaduriaid y môr i gydfynd gyda’r prosiect ac yna argraffu ein dyluniadau gan ddefnyddio’r argraffydd 3D. Roedd hyn yn brofiad a hanner! Fel rhan o’r prosiect, buom yn ffodus iawn i gael sesiwn holi ac ateb gyda gwyddonwyr sy’n astudio maelgwn yng Nghymru. Ar ddydd Iau Ebrill 11eg, byddwn yn mynd i’r Gerddi Botaneg i arddangos yr holl waith rydym wedi creu yn ymwneud â’r Prosiect SIARC.

Prosiect arall rydym wedi bod yn rhan ohono yn ystod yr hanner tymor yma yw’r prosiect ‘Ansawdd Aer’ gyda’r awdurdod lleol. Fel rhan o’r prosiect yma rydym wedi bod yn mesur ansawdd yr aer y tu allan i’r ysgol gan ddefnyddio’r monitor ansawdd aer (Earth Sense Zephyr), ag osodwyd y tu allan i’r ysgol ym mis Awst 2023. Ar ôl casglu’r data, daeth Lisa Jones ac Amy James, o dïm ‘Diogelu’r Amgylchedd’, i ymweld â ni yn yr ysgol i drafod y canlyniadau. Y cam nesaf yw cynnal gwasanaeth i weddill yr ysgol i esbonio’r prosiect, trafod ein canfyddiadau a sut all bob un ohonom wneud ein rhan i wella ansawdd yr aer.Fel rhan o’n gwaith thema rydym wedi edrych ychydig mwy ar gynhesu byd eang a newid hinsoddol ac wedi dysgu beth yw’r effaith tŷ gwydr. Yn ychwanegol i hyn, gwnaethom fabwysiadu 5 anifail sydd mewn peryg (crwban y môr, siarc, morfil, dolffin ac arth wen), a rydym wedi bod yn tracio eu symudiadau ar draws y byd i weld ym mha rhannau o’r byd mae eu cynefinoedd. Edrychom hefyd ar sut mae poblogaeth yr eirth gwyn wedi gostwng yn ystod y blynyddoedd diwethaf. Yn ein gwaith iaith a llythrennedd, ysgrifennom destun gwybodaeth yn seiliedig ar faelgwn yn ogystal ag ysgrifennu hen bennill yn seiliedig ar lygredd ond gan ddilyn nodweddion yr hen bennill ‘Ar Lan y Môr’.

Yn ein gwaith mathemateg a rhifedd rydym wedi parhau i atgyfnerthu ein dealltwriaeth o drin data. Roedd hyn yn cynnwys darllen, dehongli a dadansoddi amrywiaeth o dablau, siartiau a graffiau cymhleth. Yn dilyn ymlaen o hyn, rydym wedi bod yn datblygu ein gallu i lunio siartiau bar, graffiau llinell a siartiau cylch gan adnabod pa raffiau sy'n briodol ar gyfer gwahanol setiau data a sut i benderfynu ar raddfeydd priodol. Rydym wedi edrych yn fanwl ar ddata sy’n seiliedig ar sut mae gwyddonwyr yn rhagweld lefelau’r môr yn codi dros y degawdau nesaf, yn ogystal ag edrych ar dymheredd cyfartalog byd-eang dros y degawdau diwethaf. Roedd yn ddiddorol edrych ar sut mae’r tymheredd wedi codi! Rydym hefyd wedi edrych ar ddata sy’n dangos dadfeiliad bywyd gwyllt o fewn rhanbarth Yr Arctig a’r rhesymau dros hyn. Rydym wedi parhau i fwynhau ein sesiynau ‘Ysgol Goed’ gyda Miss Evans lle rydym wedi bod yn adeiladu planwyr ar dir allanol yr ysgol, yn ogystal â pharhau gyda’n sesiynau lles ar brynhawn dydd Gwener sy’n helpu i hyrwyddo a gwella ein lles a'n hiechyd meddwl. Hefyd, yn ystod yr hanner tymor daeth PC Ali i siarad gyda ni am sut i gadw’n ddiogel ar-lein ac am bwysigrwydd bod yn gyfrifol am wneud dewisiadau iach ar-lein, er enghraifft, sicrhau ein bod yn chwarae gemau sy’n addas i’n hoed. Ar ôl gwyliau’r Pasg fe fyddwn yn cymryd rhan mewn cwrs hyfedredd beicio â fydd yn dechrau ar 15/04/24. Dymunwn Pasg hapus i chi gyd ac edrychwn ymlaen at dymor yr haf.

It has been an active and busy five weeks for us in year 6! During this half term, we have continued to learn about our theme 'Our Oceans, Our Planet' as well as working with Swansea University to take part in the SIARC Project. The experience of being part of the SIARC Project has been very interesting and exciting. The purpose of the project was to learn about the angel shark in Wales which is now considered an endangered species. We have gained a lot of new and interesting information about angel sharks including their habitats and where they have been found around the Welsh coast, the characteristics that make them unique to other sharks, their diet and how they hunt their prey, and why they are considered an endangered species. But the most exciting thing was using 'Tinkercad' software to design sea creatures as part of the project and then printing our designs using the 3D printer. This was an experience and a half! As part of the project, we were also very fortunate to have a question and answer session with scientists who study angel sharks in Wales. On Thursday April 11th, we will be going to the Botanical Gardens of Wales to display all the work we have created as part of the SIARC Project.

Another project we have been part of during this half term is the 'Air Quality' project with the local authority. As part of this project, we have been measuring the air quality outside the school using the air quality monitor (Earth Sense Zephyr), which was installed outside the school in August 2023. After collecting the data, Lisa Jones and Amy James, from 'Protecting the Environment' team, came to visit us at the school to discuss the results. The next step is for us to hold an assembly for the rest of the school to explain the project, discuss our findings and how each of us can do our part to improve the air quality. As part of our theme work we have looked a little more at global warming and climate change and have learned what the greenhouse effect is. In addition to this, we adopted 5 animals that are classed as endangered (sea turtle, shark, whale, dolphin and polar bear), and we have been tracking their movements across the world to get a better understanding of their habitats. We also looked at how the polar bear population has decreased in recent years. In our language and literacy work, we wrote an information text based on angel sharks as well as writing an old verse based on pollution whilst following the features of the old verse 'Ar Lan y Môr'.

In our mathematics and numeracy work we have continued to reinforce our understanding of handling data. This involved reading, interpreting and analyzing a variety of complex tables, charts and graphs. Following on from this, we have been developing our ability to draw bar charts, line graphs and pie charts recognizing which graphs are appropriate for different data sets and how to decide on appropriate scales. We have looked in detail at data based on how scientists predict sea levels will rise over the next few decades, as well as looking at global average temperatures over the past decades. It was interesting to see how the temperature has risen! We have also looked at data that shows the decline of wildlife within the Arctic region due to global warming and climate change. We have continued to enjoy our 'Ysgol Goed' sessions with Miss Evans where we have been building planters on school grounds, as well as continuing with our wellbeing sessions on Friday afternoons which help to promote and improve our wellbeing and our mental health. Also, during half term PC Ali visited the school and discussed how to stay safe online and the importance of being responsible for making good and healthy choices online, for example, making sure that we play games that are suitable for our age. After the Easter holidays we will take part in a cycle proficiency course which will start on 15/04/24. We wish you all a happy Easter and look forward to the summer term.
