SCHOOL COUNCIL MEETING The August meeting of School council is scheduled for next Tuesday, August 12 in the staffroom commencing at 7pm. School Councillors are advised that documentation will be emailed by Friday (tomorrow) at the latest. Standing Orders will be suspended at the start of the meeting to enable presentations from our companies tendering for the provision of out of school hours care services for the next two+ years.
FOUNDATION TRANSITION PROGRAM The Foundation 2026 program commenced yesterday with Maths Land. There are three such sessions held in Term 3, where prospective/potential enrolees in Foundation for next year get to take part in orientation activities with a theme – hence the term ‘Maths Land’. The next two sessions, Story Land and Movement Land, are scheduled for August 20 and September 2 respectively.
SWIMMING Our swimming program for Foundation to Grade 2 students runs for 5 consecutive Thursdays commencing August 21. All sessions are held at the Yarra Swim School in Greensborough. Older students (Grades 3 to 6) will experience a water safety program late in Term 4 to complement the whole school approach to swimming instruction.
CONGRATULATIONS Warm congratulations to Bonnie Boness and Daniel on the arrival of their beautiful baby girl, Harriet, born on Monday, August 4. We’re thrilled to hear that everyone is doing well, albeit a little sleep-deprived, as to be expected! We send our very best wishes to their growing family during this special time.
LOOKING AHEAD As always we have a busy term ahead and before you know it we’ll be enjoying spring weather and contemplating the holidays, so …. just a reminder of a few important events to ‘remember’ as the weeks pass quickly. The Foundation to Grade 2 cross country will be held at school on Wednesday, August 27, we have a Book Week Parade on August 18 and tickets recently went on sale for the 2025 Victorian State School Spectacular which is truly an event to be enjoyed even if your own child is not participating.
I hope everyone has another lovely weekend.
Kind regards,
Bill Kersing
BULLYING NO WAY! The Bullying No Way: National week of action takes place from Monday 11 August to Friday 15 August 2025 and is a chance to take action to make our school safer and more supportive for students.
Bullying is everyone's responsibility. It takes a community to be brave and address bullying behaviours, within and beyond the school gate.
The theme for 2025 is 'Be bold. Be kind. Speak up.'
It takes courage to spark change.
Students can be bold, kind and take a stand to support others being bullied. While parents and teachers are there to support children and young people learn how to behave in a positive way.
In our community and in our school, we want to ensure our students have the understanding and strategies to be bold, kind and take a stand to support others being bullied.
This Bullying No Way Week, we're asking students, schools, families and communities to be bold and say something, be kind and support someone, and be proud to take a stand against bullying.
Across the week our students will participate in age appropriate conversations and lessons about bullying prevention. Our Student Leadership Team are busy preparing whole school activities to spread awareness and create a safe place where everyone feels supported and respected, voices are heard and valued and bullying behaviour is not tolerated.
Students are encouraged to wear an orange accessory on Wednesday 13th August to acknowledge their support of Bullying No Way week.
More information from our Student Leaders will follow.
Have a great week.

INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY From time to time, we are required to keep students inside during recess and lunch times in accordance with our Inclement Weather Policy. For the purposes of this policy, inclement weather is defined as extreme heat, rain, lightning, dust, wind, cold or any other condition that is considered by the Principal or Assistant Principals to be unsuitable for students to be outside. We are fortunate that we have not had many of these days in 2025.
When rain or other inclement weather is threatening, we check the Bureau of Meteorology radar http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDR023.loop.shtml#skip to see what rain may or may not be coming.
SPRING AND ALLERGIES As it is August, for those of you with children who deal with allergies in Spring, now is an excellent time to check the dates on any antihistamines and asthma puffers you may have. This is to ensure that if we have a high pollen day that your child is susceptible to, we can act swiftly. While not perfect (highly dependent on what your child has an allergy to), this website / app can be useful to check daily to help manage seasonal allergies https://www.melbournepollen.com.au/.
The website also provides an epidemic thunderstorm asthma forecast that combines the Bureau of Meteorology's forecast of a certain type of thunderstorm and the grass pollen forecast in each of the state's districts. More information about the forecast can be found here https://www.health.vic.gov.au/environmental-health/epidemic-thunderstorm-asthma-risk-forecast.
You can find our Inclement Weather Policy on our website here: http://www.viewbankps.vic.edu.au/forms-policies
Have a great weekend,
Patrick
