Welcome to West Meadows Weekly!
This week in school we have celebrated British Science Week. The children have loved taking part in science experiments and investigations during the week and thinking about the different roles of scientists. I especially liked the ‘glue’ challenge in Year 5 to see who could make the strongest glue possible! A massive thank you to all of the families who took part in our workshops! This week in school we also launched our Wellbeing Ambassadors in assembly who talked all about the training that they received from Compass Be. Next week, they are going to lead us in some breathing exercises in assembly and will be out in the playground to help any children who need support.
We have some Compass Be workshops coming up before Easter for children, including Peer Relationships workshops for our children in Years 4 and 6 and a workshop with Year 6 to support them in managing their upcoming SATS.
We have a growing amount of lost property in school including coats and packed lunch boxes and lots of red jumpers. Please come and take a look and see if anything belongs to your child. At Easter, anything that remains will be either taken to the local charity shop or washed and placed on our Pre-loved rack.
We are holding a Dr Bike session in school on Friday 21st March. This is a great opportunity for children to bring their bike into school to have it checked to ensure that it is safe to ride and to undertake any possible repairs. This is a completely free session and a great idea to do before the summer months!
West Meadows are supporting the 3rd annual Food Bank Drive for Stocksbridge Cub group. If you would like to make any donations of tinned food, UHT milk, dish or laundry soap, nappies or toiletries, please bring them into school. A massive thank you for your support so far!
This year we are holding an Easter bonnet and egg competition. Children across school can choose to either decorate an Easter bonnet or an egg and bring it in on the last day of term. There will be prizes awarded for the best entries in each class – we cannot wait to see your fabulous creations.
Next Friday 21st March we will be celebrating Comic Relief and Red Nose Day in school. Children can wear something red for the day and their nose if they purchase one. Red Noses can be purchased through Amazon.co.uk and any donations can be made at comicrelief.com
Our school meals will be moving to Arbor from Monday, 17th March. The cut off for payments to be made via parent pay will be Friday, 14th March. Any payments made after this date may not be processed. In the short term, you will no longer be able to book meal selections for your child in advance at home. This will be done in class.
Every Friday we will celebrate our children’s achievements, both in school and at home, including their attendance in school. Good attendance is vital for your child’s education and means they can make the most of all aspects of school life. We really need your support this year to raise our attendance. If you need any help or support please come and see Mrs Maree. You can see your own child’s attendance for the year and the last 4 weeks on the Arbor App. An attendance of 97% or above is considered to e good attendance.
