Reminder: Careers Fair

Monday 20th April, 4-5.30pm, School Hall

Head's Welcome

Dear Families, It has been straight back to it this week, and I have been so impressed by how quickly our students have settled back into their routines. We have officially welcomed our new students into the Canbury family; seeing them settle in this week and find their feet is always a real highlight. The arrival of the spring sunshine has certainly helped! Our playground has been a hub of activity, and I am delighted to announce that Canbury cricket season is officially underway. As I write this, I can hear the sound of the game in full flow outside my window, it is lovely to see our outdoor space being used so well. Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming Munira Wilson, MP for Twickenham and the Liberal Democrat Education spokesperson and Isobel Jones, a researcher for the Liberal Democrats whose focus is eduaction. As many of you know, Munira Wilson has been a vocal advocate regarding the VAT issues facing independent special schools. We had a very productive meeting discussing the vital role schools like ours play in the community, particularly in the context of the recent Government White Paper on SEND. It is so important that the voices of small, specialist settings are heard at a national level, and I felt encouraged by our conversation. Finally, please could I ask all families to remain mindful and considerate of our neighbours when arriving at or leaving the school. Astor Close is a private road and should not, under any circumstances, be used to turn, park or reverse in. We very much appreciate your cooperation and support in helping us maintain positive relationships with our local community. Wishing you all a restful and sunny weekend! Mrs Rich Head

Year 8 Art: Surrealist Hybrid Creatures

This week, our Year 8 students have been exploring the concept of Surrealism by creating unique hybrid creatures. The challenge was to merge characteristics from entirely different animal groups; combining mammals, reptiles, birds, and insects into single, cohesive designs. The project required students to think carefully about how to blend contrasting features, such as scales, feathers, and fur. The results are both creative and technically impressive, showing a strong understanding of texture and form. It has been excellent to see the students apply such a high level of imagination to their work while refining their drawing and observational skills. Project Focus Blending distinct animal classes (e.g., an eagle merged with a lion, or a shark combined with a rhinoceros). Ensuring the transition between different animal parts looked realistic and structurally sound. Using the idea of the "impossible" to create visually engaging and thought-provoking artwork. These pieces will be a great addition to our school gallery, and we look forward to sharing the completed works with you soon!

Cricket

The students have enjoyed the sunshine this week and the summer term means that the cricket set is out! Mr Bourgi was even brushing up on his skills!

Piano

Some musical maestros were entertaining us in The Hall one lunchtime this week and great fun was had by all.

Bubble Tube

Our Wellbeing Hub bubble tube has been replaced and we are thrilled to have this important sensory aid back with us. Thank you to Sensory Toy Warehouse for their help.

Celebrations

Marley's Golf

Well done to Marley who, following in the steps of Rory McIlroy, had a very successful Easter of golf. After playing three British Junior WAGR series competitions, he was crowned Middlesex Futures Tour Champion. We are also very excited for Marley to represent Canbury at the ISA Golf Championship later this term. Well done Marley!
