Celebrating the Various Heritages at St. Bernadette CS
Are you looking for a super fun family activity that will allow you and your children to celebrate your shared cultural heritage as well build excitement for the upcoming FIFA World Cup? We have just the answer for you! To showcase our diversity and demonstrate our World Cup spirit, we want to create a picture collage in the front foyer of the school based on the countries participating in the World Cup (for a full list, open the link below). If your family has any connection to any one of the countries listed below, please send in a photo of your child(ren) - or your whole family - wearing the team jersey, a sign with the country's name on it, or holding a flag of the country (fabric, printed or hand-drawn). Get creative and add in whatever props (soccer ball, small national symbols (e.g., maple leaf for Canada, shamrock for Ireland, etc.) you would like into the photograph. For an extra degree of fun, you could even paint your face(s) in the country's colours! If possible, on a piece of paper, cardstock, the inside of a cereal box, etc., please include any or all of these completed sentences, which will be posted alongside the photograph:
- “My family is from ___”
- “We speak ___ at home”
- “I am proud of ___”
By June 8th, have your child bring the photo and write-up to school to give it to their classroom teacher and we will post it on our World Cup Wall. If you prefer, send a digital copy of the photograph to our ESL teacher at rhonda.cantle@dcdsb.ca And if your country isn't being represented at the World Cup, no worries. We would still love you to participate and your photos will naturally be included on the wall!
Sending Mrs Assenza a Virtual Hug on her Upcoming Retirement
Mrs. Diana Assenza proudly served St. Bernadette Catholic School from September 2022-June 2024. Students and families will remember her warm smile, great ability to make everyone feel validated, and her contagious laugh! (She also had a fabulous collection of hats!) At the end of this school year, Mrs. Assenza will be retiring, and we would like to pass along our sentiments of gratitude and best wishes to her. Please write a message congratulating and thanking her below and Mr. Linhares will compile them into a digital book with pictures remembering her time here at St. B's. Please complete by Friday, June 12
