Setting the Scene: Pacific Lutheran hosts its lone tournament of the fall, with 10 men's teams and six women's teams competing on The Home Course at the 2025 PLU Invitational. The PLU Invite will consist of two rounds of 18 holes with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. both days.
Complete Field: Men's Teams: Pacific Lutheran University, PLU B Team, Bellevue College, Columbia Basin College, Linfield University, University of Puget Sound, Whitworth University, Whitworth B Team, Willamette University, Willamette B Team. Women's Teams: Pacific Lutheran University (individuals only), Centralia College (individuals only), Linfield, Puget Sound, South Puget Sound Community College, Willamette (individuals only).
PLU Invite Rewind: The PLU Invite makes a return this fall after taking a hiatus in 2024. The last Plus Invite was back on Sept. 25-26 of 2023 with the Lute men finishing runner-up amongst the 11 team field. The PLU women placed fifth at the nine-team event during the 2023 campaign.
About the Lute Women:The Pacific Lutheran University women's golf squad finished its first tournament of the fall last Tuesday with transfer Kate Sabarillo leading the way at the Grisham Memorial Shootout at The Home Course.
The Bellevue College transfer shot an 82 during Monday's opening round before carding a 91 on Tuesday. Sabarillo's two-round tally of 173 was good for 59th overall while teammate Kathleen Pullin was eight strokes back in 64th. Pullin shot a 92 on Monday before shaving off three strokes during the final round, shooting an 89 on Tuesday. Emily Alicea had the Lutes' best round of the tournament, carding an 81 on Monday but didn't play during Tuesday's final round.
University of Hawaii-Hilo's Kiersten Saludares won medalist honors, shooting an even par 144 (72-72) for the tournament. Canada's Simon Fraser University captured the team title with a tally of 591 (293-298) in a field that featured eight Division II schools. Northwest Conference rival George Fox University finished seventh with a 620 (314-306). PLU did not register a team score at the tournament.
About the Lute Men:Luke Butler led the way as the Pacific Lutheran University men's golf team knocked off the rust on Sept. 15, finishing fifth at the Whitworth Fall Invitational at Indian Canyon Golf Course to open the fall season.
Butler was the top Lute, cracking the top 10 after shooting a two round tally of 144. Butler shot a one-under 70 on Sunday before carding a 74 on Monday to secure eighth overall.
Tanner Frinell was 17th overall with a 149, shooting a 76 during round one and shaving off three strokes on Monday, closing the tournament with a 73. Soren Bostrom was 19th competing as an individual, shooting a 150 (77-73). Geo Pirrie finished in a four-way tie for 22nd, ending the tournament with a 151. Pirrie shot a 73 on Sunday before netting a 78 on Monday.
Koen Solis was one stroke back in 26th with a 152. Solis shot an 80 on Sunday but shaved off eight strokes, collecting a 72 on Monday. Marcus Otto was 32nd with a 156 (78-78). Luke Pendergraft and Tyler Maag competed as individuals, turning in scores of 157 (76-81) and 162 (82-80).
As a team, the Lutes boasted a two-day tally of 594, shooting a 297 both days. PLU was fifth in the team standings, finishing 11 strokes behind Northwest Conference rival Linfield University and six strokes ahead of host Whitworth University's B team. Willamette University won the seven team event with a 564 (279-285) while Whitworth's Matthew Durkin earned medalist honors with a 136 (67-69).
