The Wave term 2 week 10

Relieving Principal's Message

Mrs Angela Wraight

And just like that we have completed a full semester of learning! Term 2 has been very busy with lots of exciting events. I would like to thank all our families for their ongoing support and the partnerships we are building between home and school. Almost all of our school community is now connected on School Bytes and we are continuing to refine our communication pathways.

It was a pleasure to read each and every students report over the past week. It is heartwarming to see so many positive comments and words of encouragement shared by our classroom teachers. We love to celebrate our student’s successes and being able to share them with you.

We made the very difficult decision to postpone our community NAIDOC event on Tuesday. We have very big plans and want to give this event the respect it deserves by running it properly with the sun shining. NAIDOC will now be celebrated in Week 3 on Tuesday 6 August.

It is with mixed feelings that I make this next announcement. Mr Coulter will be stepping in as relieving Principal at Blake Brook Public School for the remainder of 2024. This is an amazing leadership opportunity, and he will be dearly missed by staff and students at Ballina PS. Good luck Mr Coulter and we can’t wait to see you again in 2025.

I would like to wish all our families a safe and happy holiday. Take this time to enjoy each other’s company and make memories together. Monday 22 July is a staff development day and students return to school on Tuesday the 23 July.

See you all next term!

We can't wait to see all our kindy's dressed up!

We are all Mathematicians!

This term, in all classes across the school students are learning that we are all mathematicians by engaging in problem solving activities, using manipulatives to work out more than one way to solve a problem and share our thinking. Students are learning that we are not born with a maths brain. Mathematics can be learnt but it does take time, effort and a positive mindset! This week’s photos show students persevering during Mathematics lessons, even when it’s tough!

Clinton Toopi - Played for New Zealand Warriors & Gold Coast Titans
Zeb Taia - Played for Parramatta Eels, Newcastle Knights & Gold Coast Titans
Bodene Thompson - Played for Gold Coast Titans, West Tigers & New Zealand Warriors

On Thursday 27 June we had Clinton Toopi, Zeb Taia and Bodene Thompson visit our school to deliver League Stars Inspire Health & Wellbeing Workshop to our Years 5 & 6 students.

The NRL is a powerful vehicle for inspiring positive change in our communities. Our aim is to unite communities to lead and inspire people to be the best they can be, by providing pathways and opportunities to live positive, respectful and healthy lives.

There is close alignment between what children learn in school about health and physical education and what the game provides, both on and off the field. The NRL INSPIRE – respect, health & wellbeing and inclusion/diversity program aims to provide interactive learning experiences that inspire our young people.

The aim is to Inspire primary school-aged children to develop and apply the knowledge and understandings, skills, attitudes and values that are central to these three focus areas – using the great game of rugby league as both a background to and the vehicle for engaging learning experiences.

This resource has been developed to support and guide those involved in the NRL to deliver to primary school-aged children important messages about attitudes and values and skills related to three key focus areas:

Respect: Respecting oneself, others and what it means to develop and maintain respectful relationships.
Health & Wellbeing: Developing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, resilience and a positive mind and approach to life and its many and different challenges and opportunities.
Inclusion/Diversity: Having an appreciation of the qualities of others and a positive attitude towards difference.

Minecraft Student Academy

Zoe, Avon, Isaac, Marshall and Mizuki were chosen for a unique opportunity to be part of the Minecraft Student Academy with Ms Gulliver. The team took part in an interactive live session that spanned across New Zealand and Australia. Students were required to practise both communication and collaboration skills—working together to reach a goal while sharing questions, ideas, and problem solving. They were given a time limit and were challenged to undertake research and work within team roles to complete building a famous landmark of their choice using Minecraft Education software. The team decided to build the Gold Coast’s Wet ‘n’ Wild. They worked very well together, learnt some new skills, and had a lot of fun.

SRC

On Monday 1st July, six of our year 2 students were inducted into the SRC. After the assembly those students and their guests had an afternoon tea at the breakfast club to celebrate. Thank you to everyone who came along and congratulations to our new inductees.
