Last week, we accidentally missed mentioning a new record that was broken at our swimming carnival.

A HUGE congratulations to Lawson K (Year 10) for setting an amazing new record in the 16 Years Boys 50m Butterfly with a time of 28.40 seconds!!!! We apologise Lawson for the oversight and celebrate this great achievement.

ASX Schools Sharemarket Game

Invitation to all students to register now

All students at Byron Bay High School are invited to register to trade shares in the ASX Schools Sharemarket Game, starting on 12 March.  Before the Game students will learn about shares and selecting companies in which to invest.

Any students studying Commerce, Economics or Business Studies are automatically enrolled to trade shares in the Game.

All other interested students should see Mr Stevenson in the HSIE staffroom or email him at dale.stevenson@det.nsw.edu.au to register for the Game.  Byron Bay High School is a leading school in this activity and in 2026 we look forward to continuing this tradition.

Your child’s timetable is important

Setting students up for a positive start to their school day

At high school, your child's timetable is very important. It tells them what classes they have each day - where they need to be and when. By looking at their timetable they can work out what books and equipment to bring to school and the names of their teachers for each subject. When students lose or come to school without their timetable it can cause them undue anxiety. They can miss out on vital learning in the classroom as they try to find out where they should be. It's important that your child stores a copy of their timetable in a secure location so they know where to find it.

Learning how to look after their belongings and keep track of their timetable is an important life skill.

Parents, please help your child to take a photocopy of their timetable and keep it in a variety of safe locations, i.e. a diary, the front pocket of their back pack, stick a copy in the front of each workbook, etc. Having access to their timetable sets them up for a positive start to their school day.

Due to the morning workload on the counters and phones, our office staff CAN NOT help your child access another copy of their timetable before the bell goes.

What can students do if they have lost their timetable?

If your child loses the printout of their timetable we encourage them to independently:

  • Visit their Year Advisor/s in their faculty staffroom to request another printout before the 9 am bell.
  • Log into their Department of Education Student Portal and access the online version through the 'Edval' tab - they can do this at home or in the school Library.
  • Visit the timetable checking screen on the counter at the office - students can do this once they receive their student card.
Timetables can be found on your child's Department of Education Student Portal via the 'Edval' tab

Senior study periods

Information for Year 11 and 12 students and parents

For our Senior students, it’s important to know the rules about study (free) periods:

Year 11

Year 11 students must be at school from 9 am to 3:30 pm, every school day. They are not allowed to leave the school grounds during this time.

During free periods on their timetable, Year 11 students are to undertake study in the Library, and use this time to complete assigned homework and assessment tasks.

Year 12

Year 12 students have a bit more flexibility. They need to arrive at school and sign in before their first class of the day. Once they finish their last class, they can sign out and leave the school grounds. Students must sign in before the bell goes for their first class. If they sign in after the bell, they will be marked as LATE and parents/carers will receive a Late sms. If you have any questions about these rules, please contact the school office. We appreciate your support in helping keep our students safe and focused on their studies!

Year 7 2027 Information Evening

  • Thursday, 12 March 2026
  • 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm
  • Byron Bay High School Hall

This event is a great chance to:

  • Discover all that Byron Bay High School has to offer
  • Meet our Principal and teaching staff
  • Learn about the Year 6 to Year 7 transition process
  • Tour our school campus
While the session focuses on families preparing for Year 7 in 2027, everyone interested in learning more about our school is welcome to attend.

We’re very proud of our school community and our students’ achievements. Our annual Information Evening is the perfect opportunity to explore why Byron Bay High School could be the right choice for your family. We look forward to seeing you there!

ATSI Homework Club

Supporting First Nations student success

Our Homework Club is a fantastic, free opportunity for First Nations students to strengthen their learning, build confidence, and achieve their best. Held in the Library every Monday afternoon from 3:40 to 4:40 pm, the club provides a quiet, supportive space equipped with all the resources you need to succeed.

Students will be supported by a highly skilled Maths tutor, experienced English teachers, and a dedicated HSIE teacher specialising in Years 7–10. With enough notice, we can also arrange specialty tutors to support specific subjects or assignments.

Please note that transport is not provided, and students will need to be picked up after the session or make their own way home.

By taking part, students will be contributing to the important goal of closing the gap in education outcomes — while developing strong study habits, confidence, and pride in their learning journey.
