H.E Beriault School Newsletter November 2025

ADMINISTRATOR'S MESSAGE

Lest we forget. November 11th at 11:11 we observe two minutes of silence to honour our freedom, thankfulness and history. We wear a poppy on our hearts to remember the ultimate sacrifice that many soldiers have given to us so that we may live a life of freedom and opportunity here in Canada. We aren’t the only country that observes Remembrance Day on November 11th. France, Belgium and Poland also observes Remembrance Day on November 11th. Many families that have arrived to Canada, have chosen our country for a better life, for a peaceful life, a safe life, or possibly have moved away from conflict and war in their home country. We remember the ones that are currently serving in Canada in the armed forces, or others that are currently fighting for other countries. We all stand beside each other as one school family to pray for peace and on November 11th, we will remember them. We also remember all Indigenous soldiers that have fought in wars throughout history to maintain the peace that we so cherish in Canada.

I wanted to thank all families who came out to participate in our school council meeting on September 24th. It is an important endeavor to help with our school council, and we will be voting in our new positions for this school year. Our next meeting is on Nov. 26th, so please come at 6:00 pm to our school learning commons and I promise to have a lasagna supper waiting for you. Conversely you may also join via Teams with this link. Please email me at leon.vandendooren@ecsd.net to inform me if you are attending. Also please inform me if you have any food allergies.

Volleyball will be in full swing once again following the November break. It will be exciting to see our students compete. Our volleyball coaches offer our students this opportunity to play and represent our school in competition with other schools to compete and hone their skills. We appreciate the time they are volunteering to make this happen!

All the best to you and your families for a pleasant November break. Thursday November 6th is a half day Thursday as it is each week. We will also be having our Remembrance Day Ceremony in the morning on November 6th in the main gym. We will resume with regular classes on Thursday November 13th.

We would also like to mention our appreciation as teachers for all the support that our parent community has shown to us during this labour action throughout the month of October. This was a challenging time for all of us as we stood in solidarity as teachers to lobby our government for a better education system for all students and teachers across Alberta, and we appreciate all the words of encouragement that we received at our school. Thank you.

Leon Vandendooren

A Message from Parent Council

As we embark on another exciting school year at H.E. Beriault Junior High School, I am reaching out to encourage you to become actively involved in our Parent Council. Our Parent Council plays a crucial role in supporting school initiatives, and parent participation is vital in fostering a strong school community and enhancing the educational experience for our children. The council meets 5 times throughout the school year, with parents attending both in person and via Teams.

We are also currently seeking enthusiastic parents to volunteer for various council positions. Your involvement can make a significant difference!

We have several key positions available:

  • Council Chair: The Chair leads the council meetings and ensures that all voices are heard.
  • Secretary: The Secretary is responsible for taking minutes during meeting and distributing those minutes to meeting participants.
  • Treasurer: The Treasurer is responsible for overseeing the council’s finances and completing all required financial reporting.

I encourage you to consider volunteering for one of these positions or simply participating in our meetings. Your involvement, no matter how big or small, is greatly appreciated and makes a positive impact on our school community.

If you are interested in volunteering or have any questions, please feel free to contact me at fern.rowe@hotmail.com. I look forward to working together to make this school year a success!

Warm regards, Fern Brewer
