Our head office and shop is located in the beautiful Fraser Valley, just an hour east of our Vancouver office, and close to the growing Abbotsford airport. Our US office is located in Seattle, WA and European office in Trento, Italy.

About the Role

We are seeking a Site Supervisor to join our team on timber construction projects throughout the USA. This position will interface directly with our clients and site staff to deliver a high-quality wood structure safely, on time, and on budget.

What You'll Do

General Responsibilities:

Pre-Construction Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the preparation and planning of a project safety plan, project quality control plan, project schedule and budget, sub-trade scopes of work and erection plan, budget, and schedule.
  • Review and comment on tender drawings and specifications.
  • Attend any or all pre-bid meetings and note and report deviations.
  • Review and comment on tender submissions and recommendations.

Construction Responsibilities:

  • Lead, schedule, coordinate and supervise the daily activities of the on-site team members: StructureCraft employees (supervisor, carpenters, others) and sub-trades.
  • Ensure on-site team members have completed a safety orientation and all training necessary to perform their respective duties safely, in accordance with company safety policies and applicable government regulations.
  • Provide First Aid coverage on site.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and clean site and site office.
  • Manage the documentation control process (hardcopies on site and electronic copies on server).
  • Follow up with consultants and sub-trades as required and report cost or schedule implications.
  • Maintain a detailed Site Report and submit daily.
  • Maintain project budget and schedule and immediately report any anticipated deviations.
  • Review with Project Manager, sign-off on, and submit monthly invoices and draws.
  • Submit timesheets to Project Manager weekly.
  • Estimate employees overtime work for Project Manager’s approval.
  • Chair weekly tailgate meetings and ensure distribution of minutes.
  • Prepare and issue projected weekly schedules.
  • Prepare for and attend bi-weekly site meetings.
  • Schedule, chair and take minutes for bi-weekly sub-trade meetings.
  • Ensure construction best practices and compliance to IFC drawings and specifications are adhered to.
  • Ensure erection plans, lifting details, and equipment are stamped by P. Eng. prior to use.
  • Survey, establish, and maintain project limits and property lines.
  • Source materials and/or services as required and request a purchase order when needed.
  • Maintain architectural and structural as-builts and check on the accuracy and completeness over the course of the job.
  • Schedule and attend required inspections.
  • Schedule and coordinate required material testing (compaction, rebar, concrete, other).
  • Take and upload progress pictures regularly and often.
  • Prepare, issue, and log requests for information.
  • Schedule and coordinate mock-ups as required.
  • Maintain approved material samples in site trailer and confirm compliance on site.
  • Assist with the collection and submission of samples for approval.
  • Sign-off on time and materials (T&M) work daily.
  • Schedule and coordinate with authorities and utilities.
  • Schedule and coordinate site security, garbage, and portable toilet pick-up
  • Assist with hands-on construction as needed.

Close Out Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, issue, and follow up on deficiency lists.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and attend final inspections.
  • Assist and coordinate with the collection of warranty documents.
  • Assist and coordinate with the collection of maintenance stock and record turnover.
  • Meet with Project Manager for “Post Mortem” and “Lessons Learned.”

Position Requirements

  • At minimum, five years of construction-related experience.
  • Five or more years of direct supervisory experience on construction sites.
  • Proficient at conventional logistics and site planning activities.
  • Excellent resource, planning, and time management skills.
  • Strong organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel and MS Project (or similar scheduling software such as Smartsheet)
  • Knowledge of standard construction practices.

In addition, a pay premium when working extended periods away from home on project sites is provided, as well as accommodation, per diems, and other associated costs related to working on a site.
