TERM 4 - 2025 NT School of Distance Education NEWSLETTER

Our Vision

Create an inclusive learning community that inspires students to achieve their educational goals, aspirations and potential as local and global citizens.

As we wrap up another outstanding year at NTSDE, I extend my sincere thanks to our students, staff, families, and partner schools for their ongoing support. In 2025, we offered innovative learning opportunities while teachers travelled across the Territory to strengthen partnerships and provide personalised support in local contexts. Our students embraced diverse pathways, with many completing VET certificates and traineeships that set them up for future success. Thank you to all who contributed to another exceptional year. Merry Christmas and safe travels. Look forward to catching up with everyone in 2026.

Student Award Ceremony

NTSDE proudly celebrated our 2025 Student Awards Ceremony at the Darwin Convention Centre, bringing together students, families, teachers, and schools from across the Territory. The event recognised the hard work, resilience, and personal achievement of our students, with Minister Jo Hersey and other special guests honouring their inspiring efforts.

Graduation - "Class of 2025"

The Class of 2025 graduation was a proud moment for our entire NTSDE community, bringing students, families, and staff together to celebrate our graduates hard work and determination. It was a night filled with achievement, gratitude, and excitement for the bright futures ahead.

We proudly acknowledged the hard work of our dual-school graduates, who balanced learning at NTSDE with studies at their home schools. Their success reflects strong partnerships and a shared commitment to student achievement.

In attendance were students from Ngukurr School, Batchelor Area School, Numbulwar School, Dundee Beach School, Top End School of Flexible Learning and Tiwi College.

We also proudly celebrated our non-dual students, recognising the dedication required to complete their studies entirely through NTSDE. Their achievements made the night truly special, highlighting the strength and independence that distance education fosters.

From the Bush to the Big Smoke

Jilkminggan Students Visit NTSDE

Some dual enrolled students from Jilkminggan School visited NT School of Distance Education in Term 4 for an action-packed week in the city. Between lessons, they found time for plenty of fun - rock climbing, games, swimming, and catching a classic Darwin sunset on the foreshore. Such a great visit filled with smiles, learning, and new experiences.

Gecko Climb Event

Our students took on the walls at Gecko Climb Darwin. 🧗‍♀️ As a distance education school, we love bringing students together for days like this - building friendships, confidence, and connections beyond the computer screen.

Learning at New Heights

Mitchell was on-site at NTSDE for his Stage 1 Drones practical, taking to the skies over Bundilla Beach. Mitchell captured some incredible shots, demonstrated his flying prowess and continues to soar.

World Teachers' Day

On World Teachers Day our students spent the morning beading colourful trinkets and keyrings, then personally delivered them to teachers in gift bags with heartfelt messages. A wonderful way to thank their teachers for all the support and hard work they give every day.

Year 12 Completers Party

Our completers party for the graduating class of 2025 was the perfect way to wrap up the year. Students hit the bowling lanes, battled it out in laser tag, and enjoyed lunch together - an opportunity to relax, reconnect, and reflect on a year of hard work and achievement.

Kicking Goals On and Off the Field

Emanouil travelled to Manchester in October as he was selected to attend trials and a soccer camp with Manchester City FC. He kept up with his studies while he was abroad. A great reminder of how flexible distance education can be, allowing students to chase big dreams while staying engaged in their learning.

Pukumani Power: Shayna’s NAIDOC Win

Shayna Murphy was awarded Overall Winner in the Senior Years category of the 2025 School NAIDOC Poster Competition. Her digital artwork celebrates Tiwi culture, featuring Pukumani Poles symbolising legacy, vision, and strong leaders. Shayna received her award from NTSDE Principal Anne White, recognising her creativity and cultural storytelling.
