PLANNING WEEK Planning Week is almost upon us once again. This term, Planning Week will be occurring in Week 10. Days and teams as per below.

This is an exhausting week for all involved – students and staff!

NAPLAN (National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy) It is expected that NAPLAN results will be available to Year 3 and Year 5 families early in Term 3. For those of you with children in Year 2 and Year 4, NAPLAN will be happening between the 12th and 24th March in 2025! NAPLAN dates up until 2029 are available here: https://www.nap.edu.au/naplan/key-dates

PARENTS AND FRIENDS (P&F) We are pleased to announce that Narelle Manton has agreed to take on the P&F Presidency role for the remainder of the year – thank you Narelle! Due to future work and other commitments, this will definitely only be until the end of 2024. We are extremely grateful that Narelle has taken this role on so we can move ahead with our Term 3 and Term 4 events. If anyone would like to learn the ropes, Narelle is very happy to share her knowledge of the role in a co-presidency role.

With a P&F President now in place, we can confirm that we will be having our next P&F meeting on Tuesday 16 July at 7:30pm in the staff room.

EMERGENCY EVACUATION DRILL As part of our emergency management procedures, we complete various emergency drills. Yesterday (Wednesday) we completed a drill that had all students, teachers and visitors on-site evacuate to the oval. We are pleased to report that we did not lose anyone and that the drill was completed successfully.

SCHOOL COUNCIL The June meeting of School Council is scheduled for next Tuesday, June 11, commencing at 7pm in the staff room.

2025 ENROLMENTS We are asking all families with sibling enrolments for 2025 to submit their enrolment forms as soon as possible. No enrolments were taken until the start of Term 2, and then only ‘in-zone’ enrolments are confirmed. Those out of zone can submit an application by the end of July and can only be confirmed thereafter if the school has capacity. Our site limit is 675, and we have capacity for 80-90 Foundation students in 2025. Please get your enrolment forms in as soon as possible, to give us some certainty on any potential out of zone enrolments for next year.

A reminder that Monday is the King’s Birthday public holiday. School resumes at 9am on Tuesday, but we won’t be having an Assembly.

Have a great long weekend!

Patrick

SWPBS Rainbow Colours Small School Reward Congratulations to all our students who have been regularly displaying positive behaviours at school this semester. Together, they have collected over 3000 bees; earning a small school reward. To celebrate, we will be having an SWPBS Rainbow Colours free dress day on Wednesday 12th June. I’m sure there will be many colourful outfits on the day and lots of excitement. Thanks to all the staff for reinforcing and recording the positive behaviours. Hopefully families have been able to acknowledge their child’s achievements when receiving their SWPBS Values email.

Lost Property Our lost property collection is steadily growing and sadly many items are unnamed. We do our best to return lost items but they typically end up in the purple lost property tub. As the term progresses, there seems to be more and more jumpers being left in the yard, on the oval and at the play equipment. With winter now upon us any jumpers left outside over night are wet by the following morning.

Please assist us by naming all your child’s school clothing and teaching your child to take greater responsibility for their property as well as teaching them how to tie their jumper around their waist if they take it off whilst outside. If your child has lost school uniform items please come in and check the purple lost property tub outside the music room and don’t forget to also check the gym foyer if your child attends TheirCare and the Jilinga staffroom if your child is in grades 3 or 4.

Have a lovely week,

Gill

CAMPS, SPORTS AND EXCURSIONS FUND (CSEF) The Government assisted Fund provides payments for eligible students to attend camps, sports, incursions and excursions ($150 per child). Applications for the Governments ‘CSEF Fund’ can be accessed by filling in the application form and returning it to the office with a copy of your current Health Care Card. Families holding a valid means-tested concession card or temporary foster parents are eligible to apply) i.e. a Centrelink Health Care Card or Pension Concession Card or Veteran Affairs Gold Card.

If you applied for the CSEF at your child's school in 2023, you do not need to complete an application form in 2024 unless there has been a change in your family circumstances.

You only need to complete an application form if any of the following changes have occurred:

  • new student enrolments; your child has started or changed schools in 2024 or you did not apply in 2023.
  • changed family circumstances; such as a change of custody, change of name, concession card number, or new siblings commencing at the school in 2024.
  • Funds are paid to the school and will be automatically allocated to the Extra-Curricular Items and Activities unless otherwise stated by the parent at the start of the year.

Kind regards,

Lucy Addati

Mathletics Congratulations We are thrilled to share a remarkable achievement from Gabe in 3M. Earlier this week, Gabe ranked 16th in the world and 5th in Australia for Mathletics points! His hard work and dedication to his studies are truly commendable.

Let’s join together in celebrating Gabe's impressive accomplishment. Well done, Gabe!

SWPBS It has been a busy year and our students have been working very hard academically and otherwise. Accordingly, we recently reached 400 bees towards our Beehave hive (which is currently in hibernation as buildings have been relocated). 400 bees means that students have shown our school values 4000 times!

As you might have heard at assembly on Monday, this means we get our first whole-school small reward. This will take place next Wednesday, 12th June, and will be a rainbow dress-up day. Students are encouraged to dress up in an outfit of their favourite colour (perhaps whatever colour features most in their wardrobe). This can be head-to-toe or just a t-shirt. Hopefully we’ll get students dressed in every colour of the rainbow across the school and it will make a beautiful, technicolour sight when they play outside that day.

Please see the posters below, very carefully designed by some artists from 2D!

Auslan Our students have almost done a full semester of Auslan! This term has been busy with assessment. Some students are really showing how much they practice at home! VPS students have also been learning signs for emotions, sea animals, days of the week and months of the year.

Below you will find the reference sheets for these topics. Keep encouraging your child to show you their Auslan knowledge at home if they’re interested!
