Welcome to our October Newsletter. We are trialling a new format of the newsletter to allow us to add some images and other media to our newsletters. We hope you find it engaging and informative.
Macmillan Coffee Morning
This term, we held our annual coffee morning in support of Macmillan Cancer Support. As always, we were delighted with the support from our families. Thank you so much for the donations of home baked cakes as without this we could not have raised such a great amount of money. Overall we raised a fantastic £1177.36, all of which is going to a great cause. Thank you to Mrs Campbell, Miss Hughes and the Primary 7s for organising and to all the staff for supporting the event to make it a success.
Head Children
We are delighted to announce the appointment of our Head Children for the 2024 - 25 session. We are so proud of all the children who applied and received an interview. We are delighted to announce our Head and Depute Head Children
Head Children: Ella Beattie and Emily Rough
Depute Head Children: Ewan McCormick, Olivea Turner, Emillie-Sue McLaughlan
Inspired Art Exhibition
Two of our Primary 7 pupils have been successful in having their pieces of artwork put on display at the 'Inspired Art Exhibition.' Congratulations to Nini and Astrid for this fantastic achievement. The Exhibition is open to the public and runs from 10am - 4pm Tuesday - Saturday from the 2nd of October to the 16th of November at the 'Art Department' in Causeyside Street.
Extra-Curricular Clubs
We are always proud of the clubs that we are able to offer the children and we aim to have a mix of sporting, non-sporting and support clubs. We will offer additional clubs each term and we will keep you informed about these. I extend my thanks to all the staff who give up their own time to run these. It is a testament to their dedication to giving the children as wealth of opportunities.
Our garden continues to develop with the children taking charge with our weekly gardening club. A huge thank you to Miss Crew, Miss Bell and Mrs Kinney for leading this and we can't wait to see how the space continues to develop.
Make the Rules Day
The children always enjoy 'Make the Rules Day' where as a class, the children decide some new rules for the class that day. This Parent Council Initiative has become a regular feature of their fundraising calendar, so thank you to all who donated, we raised £231. All proceeds go back to providing resources and experiences for the children.
Exchange Counselling Service
If you feel your child needs any help socially and emotionally, please get in touch with us and we can refer them to the Exchange Counselling service. This service works specifically on resilience. They use a screening tool to audit the resilience of children and create a targeted programme with their specific needs in mind.
Exchange Counselling works collaboratively with parents and schools to ensure the support they give the children is being continued in as many other areas of the child's life as possible. They can share their activities and tips to better equip schools and parents to do this.
Already we have had a number of children in Lochfield benefit from this support so please get in touch if you feel your child would benefit from a referral.
Please avoid parking in Quarry Road during drop off and pick up times. We have seen a huge change for the better when people don’t park there. It is much safer for our children and you just can’t argue with ensuring children’s safety. Thank you so much to those who never park in Quarry Road. If someone is parked illegally – eg on the zig zags please take the registration number and we will report to the Wardens.
The book fayre has arrived at Lochfield and the children will have an opportunity to come along and have a look at the books on offer. With permission, the children will be able to bring in money to purchase one or more books. The children will be given a slip for them to record the books they would like to purchase, so please check bags for these on Monday.
Staff News
We would like to take this opportunity to wish Mrs Smith all the very best as she starts her Maternity Leave today. We can't wait to meet the newest member of the Lochfield family when she arrives.
