What's On? Week 2 | Term 4 - 2025 | 20 October 2025 | Mullumbimby High School Newsletter

Message from our Principal

Welcome back to an important and bustling Term 4 at Mullumbimby High School. This term marks a significant period for many of our students as they continue to strive towards their academic and personal goals. We appreciate how our community has come together and supported each other following recent tragic events. Please ensure that you reach out to the school if your young person is struggling with grief or other personal issues that our wellbeing or counselling teams can assist with.

HSC Examinations

Our Year 12 cohort, and our accelerated Year 11 students have now commenced their Higher School Certificate (HSC) examinations. This is a critical time where their hard work throughout the year culminates in these formal assessments. We applaud the dedication and resilience our students have shown in preparing for these exams. Our year 12 teachers have also demonstrated incredible dedication, giving up holidays and weekends of personal and family time to work with students preparing last minute practice exams and providing feedback in preparation for the exams.

Importantly, many of these students have already been successful in gaining early offers for university places through various early admission schemes. This is a fantastic achievement and testament to their consistent effort and engagement. We encourage all Year 12 students to maintain their focus and seek support when needed as they finish off their HSC journey.

Year 8 at Emu Camp

Meanwhile, our Year 8 students are actively participating in the Emu Valley Camp this week. This immersive experience is designed to foster teamwork, leadership, and connection with the natural environment. Emu Valley Camp provides students with valuable opportunities to develop resilience, build friendships, and engage in outdoor learning activities that complement the school curriculum. We look forward to hearing about their adventures and growth following this camp experience.

The importance of school attendance

We would also like to take this opportunity to remind all parents and carers of the vital importance of regular school attendance, especially in this final term. Consistent attendance is fundamental to student success, both academically and socially. It ensures students don’t miss out on critical learning experiences and allows them to stay connected with teachers and peers. If your child is unable to attend school, please notify the school promptly. The easiest way is to answer the SMS on the day.

NSWEduChat

We are excited to announce that in Term 4, students in Years 5 to 12 will gain access to NSWEduChat, a safe generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tool developed by the NSW Department of Education.

NSWEduChat has been successfully trialled in 50 schools since 2024 and staff and students have provided positive feedback about the tool and how students can use it.

NSWEduChat works differently to other commonly used GenAI tools. It does not just give direct answers to students. Instead, it provides guidance and asks open-ended questions encouraging students to think critically and express their ideas, reasoning, and assumptions

Important action for parents

Please read the parental privacy notice here under, which includes information on NSWEduChat, data collection, and privacy.

Benefits of NSWEduChat
  • Creates new opportunities to enhance teaching and learning, while maintaining a safe and human-centred approach in the classroom where we value teacher expertise.
  • Promotes equitable learning opportunities by providing students with a free, safe and effective generative AI (GenAI) tool that is owned and designed by the department.
  • Enables students to develop critical AI skills in a safe environment where content is filtered, and their data is secured.
  • Helps teachers advance students’ independent learning and critical thinking. We’ve heard from our trial school principals that NSWEduChat is a valuable resource for advancing these skills and increasing student confidence and engagement. Students have said it helps them understand their work better, develop their writing skills and break down complex tasks.
How students can access NSWEduChat

Students will be able to access the tool using a single sign-on via the NSWEduChat website or the student portal. Students will need to log in using their NSW Department of Education login. Only the student who is logged in should use NSWEduChat.

For more information about NSWEduChat, please refer to Student use of NSWEduChat on the department’s website.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support. Together, we aim to make Term 4 a rewarding and successful conclusion to the school year for all our students.
