Announcing Jeremy Dennis as Brisbane’s Next City Manager

I am pleased to announce to the community today that Jeremy Dennis has been selected as Brisbane’s next City Manager.

As you may be aware, recruitment efforts for my successor got underway last August. With the Brisbane City Council selecting Jeremy as their top candidate, I am extremely optimistic for the City’s future, as Jeremy brings extensive experience in team building, citywide and department strategic planning, and overall organizational goal setting.

Most recently, Jeremy served as Town Manager for Portola Valley from 2016-2023. His background is varied with positions in budget and finance with the County of San Mateo County, and Long-Range Planning with the City of Palo Alto. Jeremy was also the District Director and Chief of Staff for Assemblyman Rich Gordon, as well as a District Director for Assemblyman Lou Papan. He holds undergraduate degrees in Political Science and History from UC Davis as well as a Master of Science in Regional & Urban Planning from The London School of Economics and Political Science.

For the past year, Jeremy has been in the consulting and teaching world providing coaching and organizational development services to local governments in the Bay Area as well as teaching at Stanford University.

A contract for the new City Manager will be on the Thursday, May 2nd City Council agenda, which will be posted later today. It's anticipated that Jeremy will be starting as City Manager on June 24th, and I will continue in my Interim role until that time.

BES Field Trip to City Hall

We had two classes from BES tour City Hall yesterday. They learned how to report service requests to Public Works through the My Brisbane app, played interactive games with Parks and Rec, met with Mayor Terry O'Connell who answered ALL their excellent questions, toured city departments, talked with Chief Macias (who is herself a BES and Lipman alum), received a tour by Ofc. Puppet, and one class saw Engine 81 before they needed to leave on a call.

Check out this video recap of the kids' time here at City Hall. Thanks for visiting, we had a great time!
