Weekly Newsletter 7th March

Welcome to QRA Weekly

Good afternoon all,

Hopefully we have turned a corner and are now heading in to warmer weather. We've had a few really nice sunny lunchtimes this week, and I'm glad to say that the children have enjoyed it just as much as the adults on duty!

World Book Day yesterday was a joy to see. There were some brilliant costumes and lots of excited faces, but the best part for me was the Reading Buddies! We sent some of our Year 6s to EYFS, some of our Year 5s to Year 1 and Year 3, and some of our Year 4s to Year 2 so they could partake in the simple act of reading together. Watching some of the older children in school read to our youngest readers was lovely!

Our after school Football clubs with Bruce Dyer and his team have been a real success. Bruce is absolutely delighted to be working with our school, and has been incredibly complimentary of the children (as I knew he would be!). I'm glad that we can offer this to the pupils of Queens Road - they seem to be really enjoying it.

A reminder that calendar dates and important school messages/updates can be found on our school app. This is a really useful platform and I'd encourage anyone who doesn't have it to download it from your phone's app store. Searching for Queens Road will then enable you to see all kinds of useful school information!

As always, I loved this morning's celebration assembly! We have achieved over 1000 Dojo Points across school this week for Being Kind, Aiming High and Discovering new things. It's always such a tricky job picking one or two children from each class to receive a special mention, but these children have really stood out this week.

I hope everyone has a great weekend. Thank you, as always, for your support.

Red Nose Day 2025

We will be raising money for Red Nose Day on 21st March.

Children can come to school dressed in non-uniform on this day for a £1 donation.

Free School Meals

Even if your child is in Key Stage 2, you may be eligible to receive Free School Meals. Many families do not realise they may be eligible for this benefit, potentially saving your family hundreds of pounds each year.

In addition, schools receive additional funding for every eligible student, helping us to provide a higher quality of education.

The application process is quick and confidential, so if you think you might be eligible, please visit https://www.barnsley.gov.uk/services/schools-and-education/free-school-meals/

Lateness

Please remember as well that lateness is a vital part of attendance.

So far this year, a total of 10,038 minutes of learning has been lost across school due to lateness. This equates to 167 hours, or 28 school days, or nearly six full weeks of lost learning! Much of this time will be reading and phonics, which is the vital focus of learning and indeed underpins all learning.

Remember, when it comes to attendance, every minute counts. If you feel you need support in getting children to school on time, please get in touch.

Attendance in School

Our current school attendance rate sits at 95% for the year.

Attendance across school this week has been 96.1% - well done everyone!

Please remember to report your child's absence to the school office and reach out for support if needed.

OUR ATTENDANCE WINNERS THIS WEEK ARE RECEPTION CLASS, with a brilliant 98.3%! Well done!

Remember to please schedule non-urgent appointments outside school hours when possible.

If you're facing any challenges that are affecting your child's attendance, please don't hesitate to reach out. We're here to support you and can offer guidance or connect you with helpful resources.

School Vision & Values

We want all in our school - adults and children - to be kind, aim high, and discover.
