I was leading a Helicopter Gunship Fire Team, two heavily armed UH-1B Navy Seawolves, on a dawn patrol in the July 1971 timeframe. We had recently been re-located from the Lower Mekong Delta to Phu Loi and I had decided to ‘sniff out’ the area in the far northwest sector of our new “neighborhood”.
