CRA Newsletter 14.02.25 Half Term 3 - February 2025

SLT Update

As we reach the end of our first term of 2025, I would really appreciate families doing a check of their child's equipment in preparation for the new half term - uniform, PE kit, CRA6 . After half term our Year 7,8,9 students will be completing their KPI2 assessments. Please do speak to your child about revising over half term to support their assessments. Year 11 will be entering their next GCSE mock exam series, so will also be busy revising, but we do also want our students to have some down time and enjoy their break. Its so important to have a healthy balance.

On Sunday it was great to support our team of 7 at the Grantham Swimarathon. Sam, Archie, Kaylen, Harvey, Izzy, Poppy and Snow raised £300 between them and swam the most lengths in their session - 166 lengths. We are very proud of their contributions to our community.

Leave of absence request

A Principal can only authorise a leave of absence in exceptional circumstances. We will take into account the Government guidance when considering what the exceptional circumstances are- all applications are considered on a case-by-case basis. You may be able to take your child out of school in exceptional circumstances, providing an application is made in advance by the parent/carer, this request complies with Government guidance and the leave is deemed to be ‘exceptional’ by the Principal.

If you take a leave of absence without our permission or if your child fails to return by the agreed date if permission was granted, then this will be recorded as an unauthorised absence and noted in your child’s record. You might also be issued with a fixed penalty notice for this absence. If your child has not returned within 10 days of the expected date of return then, after consultation with the Local Authority, we may take your child off our school roll.

As examples, the following reasons are not considered to be exceptional circumstances:

  • availability of cheap holidays
  • periods overlapping with beginning or end of term
  • visits to family
  • renewing passports

Requests for leave of absence will only be considered if made in writing. Please ensure you use the leave of absence request form to do this.

CRA take on ‘The Cube’

The ITV hit gameshow, ‘The Cube’ returned to CRA this term featuring a host of brand new challenges. Working together within their respective house teams, staff and students across each year groups put their skills to the test to try and overcome seven of ‘the cubes’ challenges.

In a true test of speed, accuracy, reaction time and composure The Cube proved to be a challenging prospect for each of the participants who had to display CRA Courage and Resilience throughout to overcome each game.

Brand new games included Obstacle, Reaction, Tense Ball and Orbit providing a nice mix of individual and team challenges. Obstacle required players to balance a Table Tennis ball on a Table Tennis bat as they navigated their way over various obstacles, in head to head race against the clock. Orbit was a test of speed as players were required to return 20 balls to the cube in the centre of the stage as quickly as possible. and Reaction. The final new game was a two player game where participants had to work together to balance a ball using two poles before guiding it over and successfully dropping the ball into the target area. The remaining games included Barrier, Speed and Target Zone.

Full results will be revealed in assembly after half term.

House New Year Cup – Race Down Under

The deadline for the House New Year Cup has now passed and house distances are currently being calculated. Well done to everyone who took part in the competition, it was a fantastic community effort from students to staff to wider family members.

The latest scores, revealed on Wednesday showed we required a further 300km to reach our CRA target of 4,949km – the equivalent distance of Brisbane to Perth in Australia via Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.

The competition saw a whopping 750+ entries across term.

Full results including overall new year cup champions, top 3 students, staff and family scores will be revealed in the first assembly after half term.

Fingers crossed we have reached our target.

Term 4 House Competitions

Term 4 promises to be another exciting term of house competitions featuring the eagerly anticipated return of ‘Rocket League’. Next terms community competition is ‘Photography’ with this years theme being released after half term. We are also have a mystery competition in the pipeline which we are excited to reveal details of following student voice – watch this space!

With a further 2,000 house points on offer next term there is still plenty of time for the leaderboard to change. Each and every student and staff can play their part and make a difference for their house.

Keep an eye out for more information on how to get involved in any of the upcoming competitions. Register your interest with your tutors, house captains or heads of house to play your part.
