2025-2026 Davenport Women's Ultimate Team at Nationals

About Us

Davenport University is the first women's ultimate program to be part of a university athletics department! This is a fully-funded sport with athletic scholarships for student-athletes. Our team culture is centered around inclusion, support, and growth. We are creating an environment where anyone can come to improve at this sport and feel supported as they push themselves to grow on and off the field. As a young team, we believe that this is how we will build a solid foundation for a competitive and sustainable program.

Spring 2024 was our inaugural season. Over the course of one year, we went from three student-athletes to a team of fifteen that took 11th place at D-III College Nationals. In our second and third years as a team, we once again qualified for Nationals, taking 5th overall! Our competitive edge comes from the dedication of our athletes, our stellar coaching staff, and the support from our school. Scroll through to learn more!

Head Coach Jessica Creamer and Assistant Coaches Lanie O'Neill and Joe Cubitt were named first runner-up for Ultiworld Coaching Staff of the Year in 2024

Jessica Creamer came to Davenport from a career in aerospace to head the brand new women’s ultimate frisbee program in Fall 2023. Creamer has over 20 years of ultimate frisbee experience and has coached at the college, club, and professional levels. She has a passion for building opportunities for women in sports and has created several programs over the years, including her women’s college team at Northern Arizona University, which is still going strong. Most recently, she co-founded and was the owner and general manager for Los Angeles Astra, a professional women’s ultimate frisbee team within the Western Ultimate League. In three years, Creamer has already built a strong and competitive program at DU and is excited to keep pushing the sport forward.

Lanie O'Neill grew up in Chapel Hill, NC, where her love for ultimate began with the Youth Club Championships program. She competed with the U20 Warhawks, winning back-to-back national titles in 2018 and 2019 and serving as a team captain in her final season. Lanie attended Clemson University and helped build the women’s ultimate program from the ground up. After earning her BS in Human Nutrition and Dietetics, she continued her academic journey at Davenport University, pursuing an M.Ed. in Urban Education while playing her final two years of college eligibility. She competed at D-III Nationals with DU in 2024 and 2025, with a standout 5th-place finish in 2025 and recognition as Second Runner-Up for Offensive Player of the Year. Her club and professional experience span multiple regions and levels. She has played professionally in the Premier Ultimate League with Atlanta Soul (2020, 2022), served as a practice player for Indianapolis Red (2024), and contributed to nationally competitive club teams, including Atlanta Ozone and Chicago Parlay. Lanie’s investment in the Davenport women’s program is rooted in her belief that every student should have the opportunity to play, grow, and pursue higher education. She is committed to building inclusive spaces where athletes of all backgrounds feel empowered to compete and belong.

Joe Cubitt has over 18 years of experience in the sport. He played professionally in the Ultimate Frisbee Association (formally American Ultimate Disc League) for five years and has earned numerous accolades. In 2019, he was named a league All-Star and was recognized as one of the top 10 players to build a team around. His athleticism and skill even put him in ESPN's Top 10 plays. Joe’s passion extends beyond playing; he is deeply committed to coaching and mentoring within the ultimate community. He finds immense joy in helping players not only improve their athletic abilities but also grow as individuals. In addition to his work at DU, Joe is the Head Coach of Fresh Coast, a youth Ultimate club where he led the team to a second-place finish at the 2024 State Championships.

The DU Difference

We are the first program in the country to offer ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIPS for ultimate!! Additionally, the athletic department covers the cost of travel, hotels, uniforms, food, equipment, and a full-time coaching staff dedicated to student-athlete academic success and growth as an ultimate player.

We ask for a 100% commitment from our student-athletes. We practice three times a week and lift with a dedicated strength and conditioning coach twice a week. The school provides an academic advisor who schedules classes around practice times, ensuring the whole team is available to learn and grow together.
