Pattern Making nursery, autumn term, week 12

We love to make sense of the world through spotting patterns around us. The children have been learning to see patterns and make them in various ways.

We love to make marks, with pens, chalk, paint or anything! Text in books looks like patterns and we are beginning to understand that these 'patterns' are letters that carry meaning.

Everyday we are creating the movement patterns that will help us write letters and words. Sometimes we do this through dance and sometimes we do it with marks on paper. Below is a picture of the shapes we are working on between now and Christmas. You could have a go at some of these with your child at home.

We are continuing our A-B-A-B patterns in maths. It's becoming easier to make our own now.

An ABAB pattern using cubes.

Outside our superhero activities have been keeping us warm. We have completed obstacle courses, practised number recognition while knocking down towers, and climbed under and over Spiderman's web.

On top of all this work we make plenty of time for learning through independent play. The baby clinic has been popular, we love role play.

Rehearsals for our Christmas nativity are underway and the children are busy learning the words to Christmas songs. If anyone would like a copy of the songs we are singing so you can practise at home, please ask the door (spoilers might be included!).
