Ysgol Tir Morfa - Newsletter Friday 23rd JANUARY 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we reach the end of a very busy week following our Estyn inspection, I would like to say a huge thank you to you all. This week has truly shown what a special place our school is, and I could not be prouder of our pupils and staff. I would also like to thank the parents who took the time to meet with the inspectors, as well as our Governors for their continued support. Your commitment and partnership are greatly appreciated. I hope you all have a lovely and well-deserved weekend.   Thank you, as always for your continued support

Kind regards,

Susan H. Roberts

Headteacher

Siabod having fun learning about the digestive system, made a pesto and vegetable pasta salad and enjoyed an active lesson learning about the Senedd.
Aled Class have been practising their workplace skills this week. They have been shopping for Brews Café and preparing flowers in Blooms for a customer order.
Dosbarth Tryfan worked with Christy from the hospital to create mood boards about welcoming environments and how to make people feel comfortable when they need to go for medical appointments. It felt good to be able to contribute ideas.
Dosbarth Tegid enjoyed lots of fun activities in Attention Autism practicing our core word of the week ‘in and out’. Being rained on in class was a firm favourite all round!! ☔️
Dosbarth Tegid’s numeracy focus was ‘more and less’ this week. They used symbols, signs and verbal language to show more and less in a variety of tasks, but they all particularly enjoyed using Mrs Edwards’s magic potion!! 🧪 👍🏻
The children in Dosbarth Alwen have been singing and dancing this week! Some of the children got on the “stage” and performed for the rest of the class showing how much confidence they have built! Da iawn Dosbarth Alwen
Enfys have been really enjoying their music therapy sessions with Rosie. Lots of vocalising and smiles this week.
This week Dosbarth Haul have been experiencing the core words ‘in’ and ‘out’ in their play. We also explored the colour yellow after seeing a yellow duck in our story ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?’
We have had a fantastic week this week exploring our sensory umbrella, George’s Marvellous Medicine Sensory Story and playing games to learn more about our core words in and out.
Brenig have been investigating bird's beaks this week. We found that they all look different. We tried picking up different items with a variety of sizes and shapes of beaks and found that some were good at picking up some foods and not so good for picking up others.
Core Word of the Week

Core word of the week next week will be: on & off

Information & Other Events

Attendance Information for Parents and Carers

As part of our continued focus on attendance this year, we have decided to share attendance data regularly with parents and carers through our newsletter. Attendance remains one of our school priorities, and we believe that sharing this information helps keep everyone informed and working together to support our pupils. In Wales, the Welsh Government defines good attendance as 95% or above. Attendance of 90% or below is classed as persistent absence. These benchmarks are used nationally across schools in Wales. We would like to reassure families that we fully recognise that many pupils at YTM have significant health or medical needs which may make it difficult, or sometimes impossible, to meet these targets. As a school, we understand this and want to be very clear that no parent or carer should feel pressured or judged where absences are due to genuine health-related reasons. Our intention in sharing attendance data is simply to ensure transparency and awareness of our overall school attendance and the expectations placed upon us as a school. We value our strong partnership with families and appreciate your continued support in helping pupils attend whenever they are able to do so. If you would like to discuss attendance in relation to your child, please do not hesitate to contact the school - we are always happy to work together to provide the best possible support.
