“We gather at this sacred place, at this solemn moment, to remember, to honor –honor the sacrifice of the hundreds of thousands of women and men who have given their lives to this nation. Each one, literally … a link in the chain of honor stretching back to our founding days, each one bound by common commitment; not to a place, not to a person, not to a president, but to an idea unlike any idea in human history: the idea of the United States of America. Today, we bear witness to the price they paid.” -Joe Biden, Memorial Day 2024 at Arlington National Cemetery
Thank you to all those who have served and given their lives in the armed forces and to their families for the sacrifices they made for all of us.

New Fairfield Veterans Association
May is a very busy month for the New Fairfield Veterans Association. Some of their planned events follow:
-We will be replacing cemetery flags at Veteran's grave sites at four cemeteries on May 3rd. This is done in conjunction with a great deal of help from the Scouts. Starting at 10 AM at Mountain View, then proceeding to Beaver Bog, Gerow's and finally Union Cemetery on Route 39. Family members that wish to participate are welcome. Rain date is May 4th.
-May 17th, Armed Forces Day, we will be collecting unserviceable US and State flags for proper disposal at Stop & Shop and this year, also at Johnny's Market from 10 AM to 3 PM.
-In conjunction with all of our activities, the NFVA will have on hand two items for purchase for the general public. First, we are offering for sale Fire Blankets, used for kitchen grease fires and electrical issues. More user-friendly than fire extinguishers and less messy – every home should have at least one fire blanket. Each blanket costs $20, which is a substantial savings over retail outlets, including Amazon.
-Also, we have a limited number of US flags, 3' X 5', cotton, made in the USA, suitable for outdoor or indoor use, for $10 each. A true bargain as the current price for this size flag is about $30. Once this lot is gone, we are not sure when we can get replacements.
-Fire Blankets and flags may be ordered by email to: newfairfieldveterans@gmail.com or by calling 203-948-3234.
