July Newsletter Happy Summer Holidays everyone!

Dear parents and carers,

This week marks the final week at AFJS for our year 6 children, but certainly not their final week as Farmers as they will absolutely remain FARMERS FOREVER! This year 6 cohort were the first year 3 children I welcomed through the doors as the Headteacher of AFJS and it has been an absolute pleasure to watch them grow and shine over the past 4 years.

As always at the end of a school year, it is time to reflect on all the amazing 'Farmers Forever' moments that we have all built up over this year. It has been another incredible year full of joy and we have been very proud of the way the children have continued to grow into wonderful, respectful members of our 'Farmers' family. A huge thank you also needs to be extended to you, the parents. Without your ongoing support, we would not be able to offer the many opportunities we currently do for our pupils. Thank you for making the payments, completing the forms, sorting out the packed lunches, remembering the days children need different clothes, helping with events, encouraging children with their homework, communicating with us positively when your child needs a little more help, turning up to assemblies and open afternoons.........the list is endless but we are so very grateful for all of it, and I know your children are too!

If I do not get the chance to see you before the end of the week, I wish you all a wonderful summer, whatever it has in store for you and your family, I hope it is a good one. I look forward to seeing many of you back in September and for those of you not returning in September, on behalf of all the staff here at AFJS I wish you the very best of luck for your new adventures.

Mrs Webb :)

Monday 1st September is a training day, so we will be welcoming the children back into school on Tuesday 2nd September.

Children do not need to bring their PE kits on the first day back. The teachers will share with you PE days through the Arbor in-app messages once the children are back in school.

Children do not need pencil cases as we provide every child with a learning toolkit that contains everything they need and there is not the space on pupil's desk to accomodate the huge pencil cases that appear if pupils bring their own. Children may wish to have their own pencil case of colours/gel pens/highlighters to use in more creative activities if they wish, but they will be expected to keep these in their bags and will be told by teachers when they can use them. However this is not an expectation and we will always provide suitable equipment for any learning activity in school.

Please make sure you send your child with a water bottle each day - this can be filled at home or at one of the water points around school. Please only put water in these bottles as anything else inevitably ends up spilling over something important or attracting ants to the classroom.

Children can bring a snack for break - this should be a healthy snack such as fruit, veggies or a healthy cereal bar.

Please remember to book a dinner on the Stir website if required, before your child returns to school. Remember you can book all week or even all month in one go to make sure your child always has a dinner ordered.

Kidzone breakfast and after school club will start back from Tuesday 2nd September and you should have had your notification of places allocated from the office if you have applied for them.

Lists and sign up links for other extra-curricular clubs will come out a few weeks into the new term. Please remember these may be cancelled at short notice due to staff illness or weather conditions for example. You should not rely on these clubs as regular childcare and always make sure you have your notifications turned on for your Arbor app so that you receive messages during the day if a club is cancelled.

Farmers Forever Moments

Summer Fair

We were all so busy helping to run stalls on Friday that we were not able to take any photos but it was brilliant to see so many families join us, including some of the new children joining us in year 3 in September. The weather was glorious, the pizzas smelt delicious and there was lots of FARMERS FAMILY fun to be had. Thank you so much for all of your support.

Cotswold Wildlife Park Trip

The AFJS Choir

The choir have been really busy this term perfecting their repertoire and performing in many different places. First, they tested their song 'Mountains' out on the Heart of England in Bloom judges to welcome them to our school. Then it was time to head to the Temple Speech Rooms for our annual concert in conjunction with several other schools in Rugby. Finally, they headed to the amazing Coventry Cathedral to perform with lots of other schools. Mrs Berry and Mrs Blackwell were very proud of them for their behaviour and their fabulous performances!

The Rugby Repair Cafe

The Rugby Repair Cafe, who are part of the Rugby Eco Hub, came to AFJS a couple of weeks ago to show our children all the great eco-work they are doing by fixing, recycling and reusing old things rather than just buying new ones.

If you have anything that needs fixing, perhaps you could give them a try too. They are open on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month from 10am until 1pm at the Rugby Eco Hub, 43 Clifton Road, Rugby, United Kingdom. Give them a follow on Facebook to find out more at https://www.facebook.com/RepairCafeRugby

Healthy Body and Mind

We are very excited to announce that this year, we have been awarded the PLATINUM award for the Schools Rugby in Bloom.

We had a visit this year from not only the Rugby in Bloom staff from Rugby Borough Council but also the judges from the Heart of England in Bloom team. We received an email from the Rugby team to say how impressed they were with the efforts of staff and most importantly, the children. They said:

Please pass on a huge “thank you” to the children who have contributed to the gardening, looking after the chickens, building the bug “palace”, the edible beds and all the other fantastic projects we looked at. A “thank you” also to the children who sang for us when we arrived. The judges were still talking about their school visit during their lunch and they commented on how outstanding the school is.

Sporting activities

Sport and physical activity is an integral part of every school day here at AFJS! That is why HEALTHY BODY AND MIND is one of our school values. We provide as many different opportunities as possible for children to get active throughout the school day and it is our aim this year to try and get the School Games GOLD award. Here are a few of the HEALTHY BODY AND MIND opportunities that have been happening this half term

Sports Day

After having to cancel the Monday due to the heat, we had perfect weather for the sports day and family picnic on the Friday. Thank you so much to everyone for your support and for helping to cheer on all the children and make them feel like they had achieved something. It was a pleasure to see you all enjoying lunch with your children on the field too. A true FARMERS FAMILY event!

Pastoral updates

Help over the holidays...

  • While school is closed, I will be checking the admin email from time to time so if you really need something over the holidays, please feel free to drop me an email and I will get back to you when I can.
  • Mrs Smythe and Miss Wood will be in school on the training day at the start of the year and they will check the pastoral inbox on this day, so if you need anything from them before the new term starts, please email them at pastoral2421@welearn365.com
  • Don't forget that there are lots of ways to get support from other agencies, charities etc too if you need it.
  • If you or your child are experiencing a mental health crisis, you can contact the Rise Crisis Team by calling 08081 966796 and selecting 'option 2' at any time of the day or night. Please note that it is an advice-only service overnight from 8pm to 8am. In an emergency call 999.
  • The Family Information Service phone line is a freephone number to enable anyone to contact them for support. You can call them on 0800 408 1558 with anything - even if they can't help, they may be able to point you in the direction of someone who can! Updates from the PTA

Thank you for all of your support in the past month for the PTA whether that be volunteering your help, donating money, donating prizes or just coming along to join in an event, you have helped us raise so much money. With Frozen Fridays, Break the Rules Day and the Summer Fair, we have raised over...

I will be meeting with the PTA in the new term to discuss plans for spending this to continue to develop the school and it's grounds for the enjoyment of all the pupils at AFJS.

A huge thank you to one member of our parent community in particular, Anastasia, who has been an absolute superstar in taking over the PTA since Mrs Warneck left, brilliantly supported by Mrs Hartwell, Miss Wood and Mrs Richardson too.
