Flying High Nursery, spring term, week 4

We've aimed for the stars with our learning this week, both through our imaginative story and our exploratory play. Our outer space friend, Jake (the children's choice...), gave us a cryptic message on Monday.

It took some interpreting but we think he is longing for some warmer weather. Aren't we all?!
We compared warm and cold climates using the sentence stem 'I can see...'.
Google Earth was fascinating. We now understand a little more about 'Earth' and our place in it.
Mrs Branson explained that Jake is not from our planet Earth but from a different planet. He wants to go home.
We agreed to help. Using drama techniques we put our astronaut outfits on, collected our telescopes and stepped into our rocket.
After the launch we looked out the window and it was amazing to see the moon, stars and outer space.

Luckily for us, in our play we had the resources ready to continue our space exploration. The children designed and tested different ways of flying.

Rocket launching outside. The wind helped!
Inside we designed and made moon buggies. Don't they look fab?

To briefly summarise the rest of our learning this week, you can see our development through play below. We are learning social skills, physical skills, imaginative and artistic skills, literacy skills, mathematic skills.. and many more whilst having fun with friends.
