Term 1 Week 4 Newsletter 2025

Principal Message

It has been a wonderful start to the school year at Kambora Public School, with students settling in beautifully and engaging enthusiastically in their learning. Our programs are up and running, and it has been fantastic to see classrooms buzzing with curiosity, collaboration, and a strong sense of community.

The Meet the Teacher Night and P&C Welcome BBQ was a great night, bringing our school community together in a warm and welcoming way. It was fantastic to see so many families connecting with teachers, gaining insights into the year ahead, and enjoying a relaxed evening together. Events like these reinforce the strong partnership between school and home, which plays such a vital role in our students’ success.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible staff for their dedication in preparing engaging learning environments and for taking the time to connect with families. A special thank you to our P&C and the many parents and carers who attended and contributed to making the BBQ such a welcoming and enjoyable event.

I look forward to continuing to work alongside our wonderful Kambora community to ensure a positive, productive, and enriching year ahead for all our students.

Swimming Carnival

Wednesday, 12 February was a fantastic day for our Kambora swimming carnival. The sun was shining, and the water looked incredibly inviting. It was wonderful to see students competing with pride, challenging themselves, and striving to beat their personal bests. Their behaviour throughout the day was outstanding, demonstrating great sportsmanship, encouragement, and support for their peers. Every student should be proud of their efforts, whether it was their first or third time competing.

A huge thank you to Ms Rhiannon Williams for her hard work in organising the carnival. The day ran smoothly, and her efforts ensured a fun and inclusive experience for all students.

The carnival would not have been possible without the incredible support of our parent community. A big thank you to Michelle Daking, Lily Stewart, Jess Wakely, Elissa Murray, Emma Slater, and all the other parents who attended and helped make the day such a success.

Ribbons will be presented during our Week 6 assembly, and a full list of zone competitors will be available soon. The zone competition is scheduled for 12 March—good luck to all our representatives!

Welcome Kindergarten 2025

This week, we welcome our new Kindergarten students who have joined our wonderful school. Special thanks go to Miss Claire McGlinchey and Mr Stephen Zissermann who have done a brilliant job ensuring our new students have had a positive start to school life. We look forward to watching them blossom over the next 7 years at Kambora.

We are excited to announce our 2025 School Captains, Oscar and Felix, who will lead with enthusiasm and dedication, representing Kambora with pride. Supporting them are our PBL Prefects: Sienna, Victoria, and Corey, who will promote positive behaviour and a respectful, inclusive school culture.

Communication at Kambora PS

We know at Kambora that a child’s most important teachers are their parents, families, and carers. When families and schools work together the child’s learning is enhanced. Partnerships for learning and wellbeing are about parents and carers, schools and communities working together to ensure that every parent can play a positive role in their child's learning, school community, sport, and social life. Positive parent-teacher relationships ensure children:

  • do better academically, emotionally and socially
  • are happier at school
  • attend school more regularly

Positive communication channels in schools are essential for creating a positive and supportive environment for students, teachers, and staff. Here at Kambora, we have a range of ways to keep you informed and enable communication. To ensure that you are well informed, and we are able to communicate with ease, please find each way detailed below.

At Kambora Public School, we value open and effective communication between school and home. Below are the key ways we keep families informed and connected.

  • Email: Email can be used to arrange parent-teacher meetings, submit absences, or communicate with the school or class teacher. All emails for teachers are forwarded to the relevant staff member. Please note that teachers do not monitor emails during teaching hours and may not read messages until after school. Staff will aim to reply to emails within two working days. The school email address is kambora-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au.
  • School Newsletter: Our school newsletter provides updates on what has been happening at school and what is coming up. It includes reminders, details, photos, announcements, key dates, and other important information. The newsletter is distributed every three weeks.
  • Phone: For any enquiries, please phone the school on 9451 8028 between 8:30 am – 3:30 pm on weekdays. Our office staff will assist you or forward your enquiry to the appropriate person.
  • Website: We are currently working on updating our school website. Keep an eye out for improvements as they arrive. The Department of Education also provides regular updates and links on our website. The school newsletter is uploaded to the website, as well as being distributed via email.
  • SchoolBytes: All permission notes, statements of account, and school emails are sent through SchoolBytes.
  • Seesaw: All classes at Kambora use Seesaw to share learning and celebrate student achievements. For general communication, please use phone or email. Seesaw is not to be used for reporting absences or contacting teachers directly.
  • Facebook: Our school's Facebook page is used for community engagement. Just search Kambora Public School to find us.

We appreciate your support in using the appropriate communication channels to ensure smooth and effective interactions between school and home.

Class Parents may also set up a class WhatsApp as a tool for parents to communicate. This is an excellent tool to share positive news and updates, provide helpful information about school events or resources, and offer support and encouragement to other parents. Please note that for any student or school related concerns, the best way to approach this is via the school and speaking to your child's classroom teacher in the first instance. This ensures we continue to build a respectful, supportive and inclusive environment that fosters student success and wellbeing.

Positive Behaviour Engaging Learners (PBEL)

At Kambora Public School, we are committed to implementing the Positive Behaviour Engaging Learners (PBEL) model to the teaching of student behaviour. It is an evidence-based, school-wide approach for creating a positive, safe and supportive school climate where students can learn and develop. It supports the establishment of shared appropriate behaviours based on our core expectations, and provides opportunities to teach these expectations explicitly to ensure a shared understanding.

Students who demonstrate these core values are presented with an award at our K-6 assemblies. Each fortnight, we have a focus area and teachers discuss with their class how to display appropriate behaviours and reflect our values when at school. We encourage parents to use the same language at home so that there is consistency between home and school.

P&C Update

Tuesday 27 February 2024

On Monday 3rd of March, we will be holding our first Parents and Citizens’ Association (P&C) Meeting for 2025 from 7 pm in the school library. The P&C is an association of parents and community members who support the school in its activities, plans and initiatives. Members of the P&C meet regularly to work alongside the Principal and Executive staff to help achieve outcomes that benefit students throughout their schooling. They support our school in areas such as the canteen, uniform shop and our band program. The group also help to organise fundraising and social events and raise money to support the school to purchase resources to support teaching and learning.

The P&C have several positions that are voted for each year and any members of the parent community can nominate for these roles. We look forward to seeing you at our P&C meeting!
