I am pleased to share today’s Trailblazer Weekly Bulletin as your new President.
My name is Dr. Christopher Maynard and I arrived on campus last Wednesday, October 1. Over the past several days, I have had an exciting time walking our beautiful campus and meeting with students, faculty and staff. I very much appreciate the warm welcome and have clearly seen what you already know: TAMIU is a great university community with people who care about each other and take great pride in this university. - We have an exciting week ahead and I hope you will join us for an array of activities and events that underscore the unique University experience that is TAMIU.
- This is Healthy Relationships Week with a Superhero-themed Consent Con Oct. 6 – 9. In addition to healthy relationships, we’ll explore communication, and consent with a heroic twist. See what’s on offer below.
- Tonight, you’ll have a special opportunity to hear from former City Manager of San Antonio Sheryl Sculley who will share her thoughts on urban growth, civic leadership, and fiscal responsibility as part of a new TAMIU Community Engagement Lecture Series open to the public. Details below, here’s more.
- Tuesday morning, Oct. 7 join us at 9:45 a.m. at the Acequia Fountain for Milestones, a TAMIU Celebration that kicks off our 55th Anniversary and shares our historic Fall enrollment. I am looking forward to celebrating with you...and there will be commemorative cookies!
- Also, check out Cybersecurity Awareness Month which starts Tuesday in the STC Rotunda from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- On Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. in the CFPA Recital Hall, enjoy “The Search for Dark Matter: Collision Course – Particle Physics on the Energy Frontier,” with a world-renowned authority on particle physics, Dr. Timothy R. Andeen, associate professor of particle physics at the University of Texas at Austin. He will be exploring the surprises that Texas researchers are uncovering when looking at the smallest building blocks of the universe.
- What’s next? Take the next step at our Graduate School Open House Thursday from 5 – 7 p.m. at the ZSC.
- How about making a run for a “ghoulish” good time? TAMIU’s Rec Center will host the 5th Annual Zombie Run this Saturday, Oct. 11 and registration is underway. It’s happening at the Jovita Idar El Progreso Park (Bartlett Soccer Complex) from 8 a.m. – 12 noon. Check out the spooky video below.
- Coming Up Soon – Don’t Be Self-Conchas (about Financial Aid) with an event happening Wednesday, Oct. 15 featuring free conchas and answers to all your financial aid questions from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.
- Our annual Maroon Madness returns Tuesday, Oct. 21 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. in the KCB. Meet our Basketball teams and coaches...and possibly win free tuition!

TAMIU Community Engagement Lecture Series Presents Award-Winning Former SA City Manager Sculley
TAMIU will host a special talk on urban growth, civic leadership and fiscal responsibility by Sheryl Sculley, the former city manager of San Antonio and a nationally recognized leader in public administration Monday, Oct. 6, from 6-7 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom.
Titled, "From Challenges to Change: Redefining Growth for Our City - A Talk with Sheryl Sculley," the lecture is part of the TAMIU Community Engagement Lecture Series. Sculley's lecture is generously sponsored by David Killam. The event is free and open to the public.
Cybersecurity Awareness Month Kick-Off Planned for Tuesday, Oct. 7

‘The Search for Dark Matter’ Lecture Coming to TAMIU Wednesday, Oct. 8
Dr. Timothy R. Andeen, associate professor of particle physics at the University of Texas at Austin, will present his free lecture “The Search for Dark Matter: Collision Course – Particle Physics on the Energy Frontier” on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. in the TAMIU Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall. Overflow seating will be available in Student Center 236.
TAMIU Graduate School to Host Open House Thursday
TAMIU) will host its Fall 2025 Graduate School Open House on Thursday, Oct. 9 from 5 – 7 p.m. in the Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center. Admission is free and open to the public.
Those who apply on Thursday, Oct. 9 will have their application fee waived.
TAMIU to Host 5th Annual Zombie Run Oct. 11, Registration Now Underway
Get ready to outrun the horde at our 5th Annual TAMIU Zombie Run, happening Saturday, Oct. 11 at Jovita Idar's El Progreso Park (Bartlett Soccer Complex). The Zombie Run is open to the public!
Registration:
- Late Registration (Oct. 4 - Oct. 10): $35 (t-shirt not included)
- Registration Deadline: Friday, October 10 at 5 p.m.

Maroon Madness is happening Tuesday, Oct. 21! Pre-Madness festivities kick off at 5:30 p.m. - doors open at 7:30 p.m. Meet our TAMIU Athletics Men’s and Women’s basketball teams and coaching staff. The event is free and open to the general public!
