10/3 - Update: Thanks for your interest in the 2026 Explore Japan Program. As of now, the program is closed. If you like to be a waitlist, please email me at sangyoub.park@washburn.edu. Right now, Dr. Park is working on the 2027 Explore Korea Program. Please check the website here. Thanks!!
8/1 - Updates: I did visit Japan this summer to finalize the 2026 Explore Japan. I had a very productive time while I was in Tokyo (I also visited Sapporo and surrounding areas.) And I wanted to let you know that the 2026 Explore Japan is officially approved now. This means that we will offer SOAN300 Explore Japan in the spring of 2026. I will start promoting the program through official venues from now on.
Please join the 2026 Explore Japan by the Sociology and Anthropology Department (Program approval pending). This will be a spring course with travel portion in summer break (Two weeks: May to June). The course is designed to explore the past, present, and future of Japan. As Dr. Park has scouted out historical and cultural sites over the years, you will have a once-in-a-life- time educational fun in Japan, especially Tokyo. More importantly, students in the program will have the opportunity to get engaged in hands-on activities including cooking and crafting and to interact with local people.
Dr. Park took Washburn students to Tokyo/Chiba in 2015 and 2017 working with a partnered school Chiba University of Commerce (CUC) while he was supposed to lead the 2020 Tokyo Program (11 Washburn students) in 2020 but the program was cancelled due to the Covid pandemic. This is why Dr. Park is doubly excited about the 2026 Explore Japan Program - because finally Dr. Park could take students to Japan! If you're interested, please contact Dr. Park.
The 2026 Explore Japan is a great way to immerse yourself in Japan. WTE scholarships are available. Space is limited.
