God Speaks: Week 4 OSHI ONLINE SUNDAY SCHOOL FROM LUTHERAN BIBLE TRANSLATORS

Now that I know Jesus has saved me, how can I use God’s Word to train in righteousness?

Introduction

Do some warm-up exercises. 10 jumping jacks? Jog in place for 30 seconds? Stretch your arms? You pick!

If you're learning an instrument or sport, why is it important to practice? What happens if you don't practice?

Just as pianists repeatedly practice scales and songs to improve or athletes practice before games, we need to practice living according to God’s Word to grow in righteousness.

God's Word

Proverbs 15:32 "If you reject discipline, you only harm yourself; but if you listen to correction, you grow in understanding."

Truth

As saved children of God, the Bible both shows us our Savior and teaches us how to live. Just as practicing the piano helps you improve your skills, reading the Bible and applying its teachings helps you grow in righteousness. Just like learning to play the piano requires practice, growing in our faith and living righteously requires training.

Musicians make mistakes during practice, but they learn and improve from them. When we make mistakes in life, God’s grace reminds us that we can’t earn our way; only Jesus does that for us.

Regular practice is essential for musicians and athletes. Making a habit of reading your Bible and praying strengthens your relationship with God. Training takes a lifetime, like practicing the piano or learning a skill. Even though you might be great, you must practice every day. You will never become a perfect Christian. Only Jesus was perfect. That is why we have grace. But your response to the gospel is what you work and train at every day.

Why do you think it’s important for Scripture to teach, rebuke, correct, and train us?

Activity

This week in the church, we celebrate the Reformation. This was a time in history when the church forgot about the truth of the Bible. A man named Martin Luther helped change that. Learn about him and his life, and have some fun with the Reformation activities in the link below.

Pray

God, Thank you for Your Word. Help us put it into practice. Like Martin Luther, give us the courage to share our faith and speak Your truth. Amen.
