Support Majed and his family's escape from Gaza, and his goal to rebuild the healthcare system with a PhD in Nursing. All funds raised will go directly to Majed, his wife, and children, to cross the border from Gaza.
Update 31st of may - Majed and his family had to flee Rafah some weeks ago. They headed north and as everyone else, they are living under unimaginable conditions. Despite of this, he is volunteering at the Al-Awda Nuseirat hospital. He reports that they are poorely staffed because of nurses and doctors are being killed or injured. He is supervising uneducated staff and contributing with his extended knowledge in a situation where hope are little, but hearts are big.
The purpose of this fundraiser is to support Majed, his wife, and his three younger children (ages 12, 7, and 5) in their transition from Gaza to Canada, where Majed will begin a doctoral program in nursing at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in May 2024. The situation is urgent, and crossing the border is extremely challenging. However, this is the only opportunity they have. We are a group of former classmates of Majed from the Master's program in International Social Welfare and Health Policy at OsloMet from 2011. We have taken the initiative to start this fundraiser. Majed has already secured admission, study permit, and visa to Canada. He needs our help to manage the challenges of crossing the border to Egypt and to start this journey for him and his family. The university in Canada covers the travel from Egypt.
Majed is driven by a burning desire to use his education to improve nursing education and public health in Gaza. He has many years of clinical experience as a nurse as well as teaching and research experience and has obtained two master's degrees in Europe (See Majed's CV here). Your support will not only help Majed in this critical transition but also contribute to the health and education of future generations in Gaza. The cost of ensuring a safe border crossing for Majed and his family from Gaza to Egypt is estimated at $18,000 (more information NRK, The Economist). Friends of Majed have already started a GoFundMe fundraiser, and the funds collected here locally in Norway will be combined with these to cover the costs of border crossing. Those of us responsible for this campaign ensure that every donation goes directly to Majed and his family. Any funds remaining after the border crossing will be used to purchase the most essential items. The family has lost almost all their belongings and is currently living in a tent in Rafah after their home was destroyed in the bombing.
We are now responsible for leading this campaign and ensuring that every donation goes directly to Majed's and his family's needs. All contributions go into our bank account, and we will handle withdrawals and transfers to Majed as needed. We are committed to maintaining full transparency and accountability throughout the process. We highly value every donation, which not only contributes to Majed's future success but also supports his goal of giving back to the community in Gaza.
Thank you for considering contributing to this important cause.
On behalf of Majed and his family <3
