Welcome to the the 2024-2025 Broughal Music Blast! Congratulations to EVERYONE for a wonderful Spring Trip this past Friday! Broughal Music brought home a lot of awards. Orchestra, Band, Jazz Band, and Southside Singers earned Excellent ratings, and Keagen earned a vocal soloist award! We still have a few more weeks left of school, but we are SO proud of everyone and their hard work. Go Rockets! Please note that the Broughal Music Blast will be sent out every weekend, detailing the rehearsal schedule, upcoming events, and important announcements.
Touchstone Theatre's Young Playwright's Festival - Sunday, 5/18
Please consider joining us on Sunday, May 18th for the 20th Anniversary of Touchstone Theatre's Young Playwright's Festival. Five of our Broughal stars will take the stage in two of the winning original plays written by Bethlehem Area School District students. Congratulations to Adalee A., Keagen, F., Eric M., Leilani P., and Estefany R. on making their Young Playwright's acting debuts (Adalee, Leilani, and Estefany have participated as playwrights in the past!). Miss Putlock will also be making a debut of her own, directing her first non-musical play, The Legend of the Forgotten Wish Tomb!
Donegan Spring Concert - Thursday, 5/22
On Thursday, 5/22, students in Orchestra and Jazz Band will be attending/performing at Donegan's Spring Concert. Students should report to the Band Room by 8:05 AM so that we can leave by 8:30 AM. We will return by 11:15 AM so that students can report to Period 4. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Stoltz.
Fountain Hill Groundbreaking Ceremony - Thursday, 5/22
By the end of the 2024-2025 school year, construction crews will start demolishing the old Fountain Hill Elementary School, but first, Bethlehem Area School District will be hosting a groundbreaking ceremony to commemorate the start of construction for the new Fountain Hill Elementary School. Broughal’s jazz band has been invited to perform for this memorable occasion, on Thursday, 5/22.
Students should report to the Band Room by 2:30 PM so that we can leave by 3:00 PM. The ceremony starts at 4:00 PM, and we will return to Broughal by 5:30 PM. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Stoltz.
Fountain Hill Memorial Day Service - Friday, 5/23
On Friday, 5/23, students in Band and Majorettes will be performing for the Fountain Hill Memorial Day Service. Students will be wearing their Full Uniform for this performance. Please review the following schedule for more details. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Stoltz.
- 7:00 AM - Bring Full Uniform to the Band Room
- 11:15 AM - Students in Band and Majorettes eat lunch. 7th Grade in the cafeteria; 6th and 8th grade in the Band Room.
- 11:45 AM - All Band and Majorettes report to the Band Room to change into Full Uniform, for rehearsal, and to load the truck and bus.
- 12:15 PM - Bus leaves.
- 12:30 PM - Arrive at Fountain Hill Memorial Site. Marching Band will set up and warm up.
- 1:00 PM - Ceremony begins
- 1:30 PM - Ceremony ends. Load truck and bus.
- 1:45 PM - Return to Broughal. Unload truck and bus. Turn in Full Uniform for Uniform Collection. Return to class.
Uniform Collection - Friday, 5/23
All Band Uniforms should have be returned on Friday, 5/23, after the Fountain Hill Memorial Day Service. Please make sure you return the following items so that they can be dry cleaned and prepared for next school year:
- Jacket
- Pants/Shorts
- Garment Bag
- Leadership Cord
- Shoes/Boots
- Berets

BMPO Meeting & Incoming 6th Grade Meeting - Thursday, 5/29, 7 PM
On Thursday, 5/29, Broughal Music will be hosting an Incoming 6th Grade Music Meeting, at 7 PM, via Zoom. This is a great opportunity for students and families who are interested in joining and have questions about Broughal Music. In this meeting, we'll discuss:

Return School Instruments by Friday, 5/30
The last day of instrumental music lessons will be on Friday, 5/30. 8th grade students and students who are not playing an instrument next year MUST return their school instruments and equipment by the end of the day on Friday, 5/31. Students who do not return their instruments and equipment will be charged for the replacement of missing instruments and equipment. 2025 Summer Music Camp!
Mark your calendars for the 2025 Broughal Summer Music Camp! We’re thrilled to welcome new and old students to this two-week period. Students will work on music for the upcoming school year and create a strong community of learning. We HIGHLY recommend that EVERYONE who plays an instrument participates in Summer Music Camp. It also is a great opportunity to get involved with the Music Department - even if you have no experience! Registration for Summer Music Camp will be sent via email over the Summer. Congratulations Naomi, Isaac, and Meka for proudly representing Broughal Middle School and Bethlehem Area School District in the PMEA District 10 Elementary Band & Orchestra Fest on Tuesday, 5/13. These 3 students rehearsed for an entire day with other 5th and 6th grade students from around the Lehigh Valley. At the end of the day, they performed an outstanding concert at Notre Dame High School. Congratulations!

Congratulations to the select Broughal students for proudly representing Broughal Middle School in All City Orchestra this year! Students learned 13 pieces of music over 2 days of rehearsals and performed in an outstanding concert. Congratulations to ALL BASD middle school students!

Handbook Forms Due - Tuesday, 10/1
Like past years, we will be using Google Forms to collect your responses for your Handbook Forms. CLICK HERE to access and complete your forms. If you need paper copies of the Handbook Forms, please contact one of the Directors. All electronic and paper Handbook Forms were due by Tuesday, 10/1. Don't forget to fill out the paper BASD Medical Form (English | Español) in addition to the electronic forms!
Volunteers Needed
One of the most helpful ways to assist Broughal Music is by volunteering! Depending on the event, you'll be assisting and supporting students and directors so that EVERYONE can have a successful, stress-free performance/event! If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Mr. Stoltz (astoltz@basdschools.org) as soon as possible and let him know which of the following events you would like to volunteer for:
- Friday, 5/23 - Uniform Collection
Please note that adult volunteers must have active clearances on file with the Broughal Music Department BEFORE volunteering. Additionally, community service students are limited to students currently attending Liberty High School or Freedom High School. If you have any questions, please contact one of the Directors.
Gertrude Hawk Candy Fundraiser
NO MORE CANDY BOXES LEFT!
Our first fundraiser started on Thursday, 9/5, and we have NO MORE boxes left! Check out the following details for more information on our first and one of our most popular fundraisers:
- There are 48 bars in each candy box. Each candy bar costs $2. Students should return $96 to the BMPO. All money and orders were due on Thursday, 9/26.
- For each box sold, students earn $40 towards their Broughal Music account.

$50 Fair Share Due Thursday, 9/26
The $50 Fair Share was due on Thursday, 9/26. We use this money to purchase music, supplies, clothing, food, and beverages. We also use these funds to pay for transportation, field trips, and various items and events throughout the school year. If you have any questions, please contact the directors as soon as possible.

Student Account Information
Want to know how much money is in your child's account and how much money you owe for Fair Share, the Broadway Trip, and the Spring Trip? Check out the Broughal Music website or the following button/link. The document is organized by Student ID number, so make sure you have the ID number ready. If you cannot find your child's ID number, please contact Mr. Stoltz (astoltz@basdschools.org).
Do you know when your next lesson is? Have you been practicing your instrument? Check the Lesson Schedule regularly so that you are prepared for your next lesson. Remember, you need to attend 17 lessons per instrument in order to attend the Spring Trip!
Broughal Theatre Announcement!
Congratulations to the cast and crew of Mean Girls, Jr. on a phenomenal rehearsal and performance season! While we'll miss this year's theatre experiences, we also are excited to announce next year's production - Newsies, Jr.! We can't wait to "seize the day" with next year's cast and crew, and we hope you'll join us for one of our performances over the 2026 Presidents Day weekend.
