Youth Committee

This year, one of the Youth Committee’s key objectives is to engage with the outside agencies and organizations where City Councilmembers serve as liaisons. As part of this effort, the committee visited the Foothill Transit facility in Arcadia on Saturday, September 14.

Foothill Transit, a Joint Power Authority, serves 22 member cities across the San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys, covering over 320 square miles, with Temple City being one of its members. Established to provide reliable, high-quality public transportation, Foothill Transit is committed to safety, courtesy, quality, responsiveness, efficiency, and innovation.

During the visit, committee members learned about the agency's mission and the services it offers, including discounted fares for students from kindergarten through 12th grade. It was an insightful experience, helping the Youth Committee better understand how regional agencies work to support our community.

August 2024 Community Development Department Report

The Community Development Department has released its report for August 2024.

Building permit valuations in August 2024 were 61% higher compared to August 2023, and the fees collected also saw an increase. However, the number of permits issued declined slightly, with a total of 209 permits granted compared to 234 during the same period last year. Notable permits issued included two new single-family dwellings, several new condominium units, and multiple accessory dwelling units (ADUs).

In August 2024, the Planning Department received nine new applications, which included two new ADUs, four house additions, a wireless cell tower co-location, and an application for sidewalk dining. Additionally, one new business license was issued in August 2024 for an automotive service.

Community Preservation cases decreased slightly, with the number of cases opened in August 2024 falling by 23% compared to the previous year. This decline was attributed to one officer being out of the office for part of July and August. Of these cases, 47% were initiated by inspectors and 48% by the public.
