A Month of Thanks!
As we enter the season of gratitude, all of us at Central Georgia EMC (CGEMC) are reminded of one simple truth: We would not exist without you, our members. Every home and business we serve is more than just an account number. You are the heart of our cooperative!
Unlike investor-owned utilities, electric cooperatives are built on a unique model of service. We are owned by the very people we serve, and that means every decision we make is guided by our commitment to reliability, affordability, and community. This cooperative spirit is what sets us apart and keeps us focused on putting members first.
This November, we want to take an extra moment to say thank you. We are deeply grateful for the trust you place in us to power your homes, businesses, and daily lives. Whether it is keeping your lights on during storm season, working to expand access to broadband, or investing in the future of our communities, we are proud to serve alongside you.
Your cooperative was built by neighbors coming together to bring light to our communities, and that same spirit guides us today. Thank you for being a part of CGEMC; for your support and partnership, and for allowing us to serve you each day.
Don't Shoot The Lines
Know what is beyond your target and hunt safely!
Birds may roost on power lines, but taking aim at them can have serious consequences.
Shooting near power lines or fiber cables can:
- Disrupt service for entire neighborhoods.
- Damage crucial equipment, with costly repairs.
- Be dangerous, and is against the law.
Even a single round can bring down lines or shatter fiber strands, leaving you and your neighbors in the dark.
Help make it a safe season for everyone. Stay alert. Keep a safe distance. Know what is beyond your target.
2025-2026 Mourning Dove Season Dates:
- November 22-November 30
- December 19-January 31

Home lighting 101
Lighting is something we often overlook—until it is not working. A dim living room, harsh kitchen light, or mismatched bulbs can make a big difference in how your home feels. With a little planning, you can brighten spaces, save energy, and create a more comfortable atmosphere.
Watts vs. Lumens
Watts measure how much energy a bulb uses, but lumens measure brightness. For example, an 800-lumen LED provides the same light as a 60-watt incandescent but uses far less energy. Remember: Higher lumens equals more light and lower watts equal less energy.
Color and Consistency
Bulbs come in warm, cool, or bluish tones. If you have ever noticed one light looking “off,” mismatched color temperature is probably the reason. To keep rooms consistent, replace bulbs in sets of the same brand and wattage.
Dimmers, Switches, and Fixtures
Dimmers let you adjust brightness and save energy. Make sure bulbs are labeled “dimmable” before you buy. Fixtures also matter: Ambient lights (like ceiling fixtures) provide overall glow, while task lights (like pendants or desk lamps) target specific areas. The right mix creates balance without wasting energy.
Smart Options
Smart bulbs allow you to set schedules, change brightness, or even adjust colors from your phone or voice assistant. They are convenient, efficient, and can help set the mood for any occasion.
The Bottom Line
Good lighting does not just change how your home looks—it changes how it feels. Thoughtful choices today will brighten your home for years to come.
solar energy your way!
Central Georgia EMC is dedicated to providing reliable energy while reducing our carbon footprint. As part of this commitment, CGEMC partners with Green Power EMC to offer renewable energy options that help members make a positive environmental impact.
Want to enjoy solar energy without installing rooftop panels? CGEMC’s Cooperative Solar program makes it easy. For $19 a month, members can add a 1 kW block of solar power to their account.
The energy output varies with weather and seasonal conditions, but on average, a 1 kW block generates about 180 kWh a month. This is a hassle-free way to support clean energy without any installation costs or equipment maintenance.
In addition to Cooperative Solar, CGEMC supports Green Power biomass energy, which converts landfill methane from multiple landfills across Georgia into electricity.
By purchasing 150 kWh blocks for just $4.50 a month, members help reduce harmful methane emissions while supporting renewable power generation in Georgia.
Both programs are Green-e Energy Certified, ensuring they meet the highest sustainability and consumer protection standards. By participating in these programs, members actively contribute to a cleaner, greener future. Learn more at www.cgemc.com.
2025 Rebate Program ends soon
Did you know that nearly half of the energy used in your home goes to heating and cooling? Upgrading an outdated or aging system can save you money. If your unit is more than 10 years old and needs frequent repairs, it may be time to replace it.
Water heaters use more energy than your refrigerator, clothes washer, dishwasher, and dryer combined. Upgrading your water heater can save you hundreds of dollars every year on energy costs. Visit www.cgemc.com for all the details and to see if you qualify.
*A load management switch must be installed on qualifying equipment by a Central Georgia EMC employee before the rebate can be processed. The load management switch must remain on equipment and in operating status as long as Central Georgia EMC has a load management program. Limit one (1) qualifying heat pump and/or one (1) qualifying water heater rebate per member/household. Heat pump and/or water heater must have been installed on or after January 1, 2025.
